2026 looks set to be a major year for Star Wars. Over the past few years, the franchise has changed significantly, especially with the rise of Disney+ and its various Star Wars TV series. While some shows have been more successful than others – for example, The Acolyte was canceled in 2024, while Andor became a critically acclaimed success in 2025 – the future looks bright.
For the past two years, Lucasfilm has been working to increase its production of Star Wars content. Now, those efforts are coming to fruition with the first Star Wars film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. The studio now seems to be focusing on releasing one movie and one live-action TV show each year, and 2026 is shaping up to be a particularly big year for fans. Here’s a look at the six major Star Wars projects planned for release in 2026.
The Mandalorian and Grogu
Hitting theaters on May 22nd, The Mandalorian and Grogu brings the popular Star Wars story back to the big screen. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film appears to be based on ideas originally intended for season four of The Mandalorian, and stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin alongside the beloved Grogu. While the first trailer dropped in September, it didn’t reveal much about the story – expect future trailers to share more details.
The new “Mandoverse” films and series take place about five years after Return of the Jedi. The main storyline seems to focus on the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen, an Imperial strategist aiming to rebuild the Empire. While Mikkelsen’s appearance in The Mandalorian and Grogu isn’t official yet, the movie will feature Steve Blum as Zeb, Sigourney Weaver as a New Republic strategist, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial warlord.
Ahsoka Season 2

It looks like season 2 of Ahsoka will likely be released in August or September 2026, about three years after the first season. The new season will continue the story after the cliffhanger ending, where Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) found themselves stranded on the mysterious planet Peridea, a world full of ancient Force secrets. They aren’t alone there – Rory McCann will now play the dark Jedi Baylan Skoll, taking over for the late Ray Stevenson, and Ivanna Sakhno will return as his apprentice, Shin Hati.
The series Ahsoka will follow Grand Admiral Thrawn as he resumes his military operations in the main Star Wars galaxy. Ezra Bridger, played by Eman Esfandi, and Hera Syndulla, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will be key players in the conflict. At Star Wars Celebration 2025, creator Dave Filoni revealed the story will feature a showdown between Thrawn and Admiral Ackbar, a famous strategist from the New Republic – mirroring a beloved plotline from the original Star Wars Expanded Universe.
Maul: Shadow Lord

At Star Wars Celebration, it was announced that Maul: Shadow Lord will be the first Star Wars TV show to focus on a villain as the main character. The story takes place right after Revenge of the Sith and will show how Maul tries to regain power after the Empire takes over. Sam Witwer will reprise his role as Maul, and the series will likely depict him building the criminal organization Crimson Dawn, which fans may remember from Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Currently, details about Maul: Shadow Lord are scarce. Lucasfilm hasn’t announced a release date, and it’s unclear if the show will finally include the eagerly awaited duel between Darth Maul and Darth Vader. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi

Following the success of the animated series Star Wars: Visions, The Ninth Jedi presents a new story set in a different timeline where the Jedi are nearly wiped out by the Sith. Produced by Production I.G., this adventure continues the epic scope of Visions seasons 1 and 3, focusing on Margrave Juro’s quest to restore the Jedi Order. The story centers on Lah Kara, the “Ninth Jedi” – the daughter of a skilled sabersmith whose father has been taken hostage by the Sith.
I’m really excited about The Ninth Jedi! It’s going to be a four-episode miniseries, and from what I’ve heard, it’s a story that stands on its own. It seems like the creators are focusing on making something good, even if it doesn’t necessarily tie into everything else happening in the Star Wars universe. That’s a relief, honestly – a great story is more important than fitting everything perfectly into canon.
Star Wars: Zero Company
Coming in 2026, Star Wars: Zero Company from Bit Reactor is a strategy game set during the Clone Wars. You’ll play as Hawks, a Galactic Republic officer, leading an elite team on a vital mission to protect the galaxy. The story is inspired by the gritty feel of Andor and Rogue One, promising to reveal the hidden conflicts and untold stories of the war.
