The Monsterverse is full of impressively large creatures, but figuring out exactly how big they are is tricky. With all the destruction they cause, it’s hard to get an accurate measurement. Kong is too fast and powerful to stand still, and getting close enough to Godzilla to measure him – especially with his incredibly destructive tail – would be nearly impossible.
While Godzilla and Kong are a great team in monster fights, they aren’t the largest or most powerful creatures around. Throughout the films, they’ve battled opponents that are even more massive and dangerous. These monsters pose the greatest threat to the Monsterverse, and are probably the ones you’d want on your side in a monster showdown.

Rodan

Warner Bros.
Rodan made a powerful entrance into the Monsterverse in the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He was roused to battle King Ghidorah and quickly proved his dominance in the skies, effortlessly destroying an entire fleet of aircraft with a single flap of his massive wings. While Rodan isn’t the largest creature in the Monsterverse at 154 feet long, his incredible wingspan makes him a truly frightening opponent for anything that takes to the air.
Let’s be real, the Monsterverse is a little short on truly airborne titans – Rodan and Mothra are really the only ones who spend a lot of time up in the air. And while Rodan looks incredible soaring around a volcano, he doesn’t always play the villain. As SyFy pointed out, he’s kind of a mercenary! He’ll happily help King Ghidorah wreck things, but then switch sides and submit to Godzilla when it suits him. He’s not the king, that’s for sure, but trust me, you want Rodan on your side when you need to take out a squadron of fighter jets.

MUTOs

Warner Bros.
When the MUTOs first appeared in the 2014 film Godzilla, their unknown nature made them truly frightening. These Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms are essentially parasites that feed on radiation and can disrupt electronics with powerful EMP blasts. Even Godzilla, who gains strength from radiation, would have a tough time fighting just one, and facing two proved to be a significant challenge for the kaiju’s introduction to the Monsterverse.
Gareth Edwards’s Godzilla benefited from the MUTOs, creatures he kept largely hidden in shadow and out of clear view. Unlike the monster in Cloverfield, they resembled a terrifying combination of the Xenomorph from Alien and the Arachnids from Starship Troopers. The female MUTO reaches a colossal 300 feet tall, but the smaller male can fly, making them a dangerous threat both on the ground and in the air. Without Godzilla’s atomic breath, they could have easily destroyed the planet.

Kong

Warner Bros.
Kong rules Skull Island, a dangerous place filled with monsters, and he’s the strongest ape on Earth. He’s a massive 337 feet tall, but still incredibly quick and powerful – able to leap into the air and tear through anything. With his powerful grip, he can easily defeat most monsters, and when he wields an axe, he becomes even more formidable, capable of taking down even robotic opponents like Mechagodzilla.
As a fan, I’ve always thought Kong is truly in his element when he’s back on Skull Island or down in Hollow Earth. He’s just so powerful there, able to control the wildlife and really use the land to his benefit. But what really sets him apart is his incredible ability to leap and bound – remember when he jumped from that ship in Godzilla vs. Kong? It makes him a fantastic fighter anywhere. Honestly, having Kong on your side in the Monsterverse is a huge advantage, especially because he has his own kingdom to protect instead of just causing destruction everywhere.

Godzilla

Warner Bros.
Godzilla, originally from Japan, is one of the biggest and most dangerous monsters in the Monsterverse. He first appeared in the 2014 film Godzilla and quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with, capable of destroying both ships and other giant creatures. While other monsters might be even taller, Godzilla stands at an impressive 393 feet tall (and has grown even larger between movies), making his size and powerful tail a serious threat.
Godzilla isn’t known for his speed; he’s a large, heavy creature. But that’s actually what makes him so threatening. He moves fastest in the water, as we saw in Godzilla vs. Kong when he quickly destroyed entire fleets of ships. On land or at sea, Godzilla is just overwhelmingly powerful – sometimes all you can do is watch the battle unfold. It will be thrilling to see who challenges him next in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
3
Mechagodzilla

Warner Bros.
Mechagodzilla is even more frightening than Godzilla himself. Standing over 400 feet tall, this robotic creature is a more advanced and dangerous opponent than any simple Godzilla copy. First appearing in Godzilla vs. Kong, this out-of-control robot caused so much destruction that it took the combined power of Godzilla and Kong to defeat it.
Mechagodzilla was essentially a robot built from the parts of other monsters, similar to bringing King Ghidorah back to life but with advanced technology and armor. Though the Monarch organization created it to fight kaiju, it ultimately led to the emergence of even more dangerous and powerful creatures. The resulting battle was incredibly close, even with Godzilla and Kong fighting together.
2
King Ghidorah

Warner Bros.
While Godzilla is Earth’s native giant monster, King Ghidorah is a destructive alien invader who wants to take over the planet. He was awakened by eco-terrorists in “King of the Monsters” and is a terrifying creature, standing 521 feet tall with three heads and huge wings. King Ghidorah is so powerful and intimidating that other monsters obey him, and he challenges Godzilla for the title of king of all monsters.

King Ghidorah is an incredibly difficult opponent. Not only does he have three heads, but he can even grow them back if they’re damaged. Beyond his multiple heads, he commands a whole army of monsters to fight for him. He was such a terrifying foe that after Monarch finally defeated him, they were inspired to build their own mechanical monster using one of his heads.
1
Shimo

Warner Bros.
To team up in New Empire, Godzilla and Kong needed a powerful enemy – and Shimo fits the bill. This massive, ice-breathing titan was awakened deep within Hollow Earth and towers at an incredible 532 feet tall. Shimo isn’t just a big threat; his icy powers are strong enough to potentially trigger a new ice age.
Shimo appears prehistoric, covered in ice, but he’s an incredibly dangerous monster – a ‘kaiju.’ It’s no surprise he was imprisoned and controlled with a special crystal. If Shimo breaks free, he could trigger a new ice age and wipe out all life on Earth. His powers are so swift, it could happen in just a few days! Considering his immense size and devastating ice abilities, this Titan is best left buried and firmly restrained.
