The Jurassic Park movies remain the most popular dinosaur films. The series began in 1993 and essentially defined how dinosaur movies are made today, with new films appearing roughly every ten years, most recently with Jurassic World Rebirth. However, before the first Jurassic Park came out, another well-known dinosaur movie was released, and it will soon be leaving Netflix.
Starting January 1st, the classic animated film The Land Before Time will no longer be available on Netflix. This beloved dinosaur adventure, created with the help of Steven Spielberg (who later made Jurassic Park) and George Lucas, follows Littlefoot, a young Apatosaurus, after he loses his mother to a T. Rex. Left alone in a harsh world, Littlefoot sets out on a long journey to find the legendary Great Valley. Along the way, he makes friends with four other young dinosaurs: Cera the Triceratops, Petrie the Pteranodon, Ducky the Saurolophus, and Spike the Stegosaurus.
The Land Before Time Is a Dinosaur Classic
When people think of dinosaur movies, Jurassic Park often comes to mind, but The Land Before Time is a true classic and a beautifully animated film – just be prepared to cry! It’s remarkable for its surprisingly thoughtful storytelling, especially considering it’s aimed at children. The movie doesn’t shy away from tough topics like loss, grief, and staying alive, and it even has a surprisingly dark beginning for a kids’ film. Despite these heavy themes, The Land Before Time is also an exciting adventure as Littlefoot and his friends journey to the Great Valley, constantly facing danger from the fearsome Sharptooth.
When it first came out, The Land Before Time was a huge success, captivating audiences with its stunning hand-drawn animation and moving music by James Horner. Made for just $12 million, the film earned over $84 million and still enjoys positive reviews – 65

Keep an eye out in the coming months to see if it appears elsewhere.
