As a huge Transformers fan, I still remember when Beast Wars: Transformers first hit TV on September 16, 1996. It was amazing! Produced by Mainframe and Hasbro, the show took place way in the future, after the original Autobot-Decepticon war. Optimus Primal, voiced by Gary Chalk, led the Maximals – basically the Autobots’ descendants – and really carried on the spirit of the original Optimus. On the other side, Megatron, brilliantly voiced by David Kaye, was still the villain, proving the Decepticon philosophy lived on. Over three seasons and 52 episodes, Beast Wars built this really complex story that actually connected back to the original Generation 1 series in some surprising ways – and those connections got bigger and bigger as the show went on. The two-part finale, “Nemesis,” which aired on May 7, 1999, wrapped everything up and honestly delivered one of the best story arcs the entire franchise has ever seen.

I haven’t gotten the game I was hoping for, but 2026 is shaping up to be a surprisingly great year for pirate games! There’s a lot of variety – some games are about huge sea battles, others focus on role-playing or surviving in a pirate world, and one is even a long-awaited return to a classic adventure. With both new hits and exciting new games on the horizon, it really feels like pirate games are making a big comeback, and I expect that trend to continue, especially with these four titles leading the way.
GKIDS is bringing back the 2006 anime film Tekkonkinkreet to cinemas with a brand new 4K remaster. The film will be shown in Western theaters on May 31st and June 1st. While it may not be as famous as Studio Ghibli’s biggest hits, Tekkonkinkreet is a moving and worthwhile film. GKIDS describes it as a story of strong love and unbreakable bonds, set in a changing world, with stunning visuals from STUDIO4°C (known for Mind Game) and based on the popular manga by Taiyo Matsumoto. The remastered version promises to look better than ever in 4K.
