The TV series adaptation of a popular novel, 11.22.63, is gaining traction on platforms where you can rent or buy digital content (PVOD) just as many streaming services are increasing their prices. According to data from FlixPatrol, the Emmy-nominated series is currently sixth most popular on Amazon’s PVOD chart.
Interest in 11.22.63 is growing because the series will be moving from Hulu to Netflix in January 2026. It’s unusual for a show originally made for Hulu to appear on a competitor like Netflix, particularly a popular adaptation like this one based on Stephen King’s work, which received awards recognition when it first came out in 2016.
In 2024, Hulu took down the series 11.22.63 without saying why. A few months after that, it briefly appeared on Tubi for free streaming, but it’s no longer available there either. Despite these changes, you can still find 11.22.63 on DVD and through video-on-demand services.
Stephen King fans appear to be using the pay-per-view option to watch the show before it’s available on Netflix. It’s understandable why, especially considering how highly some people regard it.
Stephen King’s 11.22.63 Sees Renewed Interest Ahead of Netflix Debut
The series 11.22.63 is based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel of the same name. It tells the story of a time traveler who journeys to the 1960s with the goal of stopping the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Stephen King explained the rules of time travel in his novel 11.22.63 by saying the past resists alteration. He described it as either being unchangeable – sending you back if you try – or potentially yielding, but with the risk of unforeseen consequences, while promoting the Hulu series based on the book.
King explained that the past resists being altered, but Jake’s situation is complicated by falling in love with someone from that time, and love always makes things more difficult.
The TV series 11.22.63 follows an English teacher who goes back in time with the goal of stopping the assassination of John F. Kennedy. However, he soon finds himself drawn to the life he’s built in the past.
Bridget Carpenter created the series 11.22.63, with Stephen King, Carpenter, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk serving as executive producers. James Franco stars as Jake Epping, a time traveler, and also worked as a producer on the show. The eight-episode series also features Sarah Gadon, Cherry Jones, Lucy Fry, George MacKay, Daniel Webber, T.R. Knight, Kevin J. O’Connor, Josh Duhamel, and Chris Cooper.
Starting January 7th, all eight episodes of the Hulu series 11.22.63 will be available to stream on Netflix. You can still buy the series on Blu-ray and DVD, or digitally through platforms like Amazon Video and Apple TV.
