What really struck me about the previous showrunner’s vision was this constant emphasis on the X-Men as perpetual underdogs. It wasn’t just about fighting villains; it was about them constantly being misunderstood and even blamed for the problems they solved. Unlike teams like the Avengers or the Fantastic Four who get celebrated, the X-Men would save the day only to be met with negative press. This created a really interesting dynamic where they had to lean on each other, not just in battle, but for emotional support too. It was clear the showrunner was aiming for a strong ‘found family’ theme, and wanted that to be a core element running throughout the entire story.
The characters were divided into three groups, or teams—gold, blue, and red—based on the importance of their storylines. The “gold team,” featuring Cyclops, Storm, and Magneto, had the most significant, season-long arcs and were central to the plot. The “blue team,” including Jean Grey, Rogue, Xavier, Morph, and Cable, had smaller, self-contained storylines. Finally, the “red team,” made up of Gambit, Wolverine, Jubilee, and Beast, played a supporting role, adding depth and interest to the main story.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe could really improve by using these approaches. They would help revitalize the live-action X-Men, making future installments stand out from previous movies and giving this new iteration a completely fresh identity.
