The original novels by Gregory Maguire, which inspired the films and musical, offer a complex world of history, politics, and darkness that goes much deeper than the stage show, providing endless possibilities for new stories. From exploring the inner lives of characters like the Cowardly Lion to following the story of Elphaba and Fiyero’s son, the books offer a clear path for a Wicked franchise that could continue for many years.

Fans and filmmakers are both excited by the possibility of returning to Oz to explore its magic and moral questions, whether through new adventures with familiar characters or entirely new stories set in that world.

As a huge fan, I’ve always dreamed of seeing more of Oz, and I think a spin-off series focusing on Shiz University would be incredible! It’s a perfect way to really explore all the different regions and cultures within Oz, introducing us to new characters and locations. Imagine discovering the stories behind other magical items, and uncovering the hidden societies at the university – it would be fascinating! Best of all, it would expand the world without needing to focus on Dorothy and her friends, giving us a richer, more detailed universe that fans like me are really hoping for.

9) A Lion Among Men

The Cowardly Lion, often seen as a supporting character in Dorothy’s story, actually has a surprisingly sad and politically relevant past. A sequel could explore his youth as a cub, including being saved by Elphaba, and his difficult journey to overcome his fear and find belonging in Oz, a world that constantly expected bravery from him.

This sequel would continue the story, taking inspiration from the third book in the original series.
