Hawkeye has been a core member of the Avengers since the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in 2011’s Thor. However, he’s often been overlooked and the target of jokes, with people both within the MCU and fans comparing his relatively simple weapons to those of more powerful heroes. While the Hawkeye Disney+ series gave him a chance to shine, a recent Marvel project has finally given him a significant boost in power.
Jeremy Renner first appeared as Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, in Thor and later became a key member of The Avengers. He briefly became the shadowy Ronin due to anger, but eventually returned to being a hero, even taking on Kate Bishop as his protégé in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Though he hasn’t been seen in the MCU since that show’s first season, his recent comic book appearance portrays him as incredibly powerful – so much so that he’s considered a potential savior for the Avengers, having nearly defeated the Brotherhood of Mutants on his own.
Hawkeye Just Finally Got A Serious Power Upgrade

Hawkeye reappeared in the Disney+ miniseries LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails, which premiered on November 14, 2025. The two-part special showcased Hawkeye using a wide range of specialized arrows – including those with ice, fire, water, grappling hooks, and even a smelly stink arrow! Because it was animated, the LEGO format allowed for more dynamic and acrobatic movements for the character.
I’m so excited about the new Strange Tails storyline! It’s a really cool concept – the Avengers are battling the Brotherhood of Mutants, but this time there’s a twist. A social media influencer is using the chaos to become famous, and things quickly get out of hand when she accidentally unleashes a dangerous new villain. It’s up to Hawkeye to assemble a team – including Black Panther, White Tiger, and a bunch of other awesome heroes with cat-like powers – to stop this unique threat. It’s going to be epic!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t fully showcased Hawkeye’s potential, even in the live-action films. Though the Disney+ series offered some improvement, the Strange Tails comic book truly elevates Hawkeye, making him much more like the powerful character fans know from the comics.
Beyond getting a power boost, Hawkeye’s character is also being developed further. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Clint Barton has often been shown as the most sensitive and emotionally open Avenger. While his family life has been a major part of his storylines, it doesn’t quite match how Hawkeye is typically portrayed in the comic books.
The animated special Strange Tails presents a Hawkeye who’s much more self-assured and boastful, which aligns better with how he’s portrayed in the comics. Although Strange Tails isn’t as realistic as the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jeremy Renner’s live-action Hawkeye could learn a thing or two from this more playful version of the character.
