It’s the first Avengers film since 2019’s Endgame, and it’s a huge moment for the Marvel Universe because it will finally include characters from the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Plus, Robert Downey Jr. is returning as the villain, Doctor Doom! Reports suggest Downey Jr. was a major presence on set – Simu Liu even mentioned Downey Jr. had a whole ‘convoy of trailers‘!

What Did Simu Liu Say About Robert Downey, Jr.’s Trailers On The Doomsday Set?

Robert Downey Jr., a seasoned actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and the one who launched the franchise with Iron Man in 2008 – often mentored his fellow cast members. This was especially helpful for newer actors like Simu Liu, who were just starting out in the vast Marvel world.

Simu Liu, star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, previously shared a funny story about being noticeably underdressed when he first met Robert Downey Jr. on set. Despite feeling embarrassed, Downey Jr. didn’t seem to mind and playfully welcomed Liu into what the crew jokingly referred to as his personal space, “Downey Land.” Liu recently explained this to Collider:

Robert Downey Jr. was known for having a large setup on set – a whole collection of trailers and workspaces that everyone jokingly called ‘Downey Land.’ I remember the first time I visited, I walked into a tent decorated with amazing artwork in the style of Andy Warhol, but all the images were of Robert Downey Jr. himself! It really showed how aware he was of his own public image.

I haven’t often dreamed of being on a movie set, but I’d definitely love to have experienced working on “Downey Land.” It sounds like a fun and easygoing project.

The next Avengers movie, currently titled ‘Doomsday’, is being filmed in London. A surprising detail is that Marvel agreed to a request from Robert Downey Jr. regarding the production.

Simu Liu has hinted at secrets surrounding the movie Doomsday by enthusiastically discussing his experience working on it and expressing his admiration for his fellow actors, including Robert Downey Jr., Patrick Stewart, Vanessa Kirby, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, James Marsden, and Pedro Pascal. He found it easy to perform his scenes, but the time between filming took him by surprise. Being near Robert Downey Jr.’s trailer led to many ‘pinch me’ moments for The Copenhagen Test star. He went on to explain:

He welcomed me, and I quickly learned Downey Land had its own chefs. I’d already packed my lunch, but he politely told me it wasn’t necessary. They brought out a complete buffet, and I ended up putting my packed lunch away. I was amazed to be sharing a meal with everyone there.

It seems like the whole main cast – almost 30 people – had access to Robert Downey Jr.’s amazing setup, and honestly, it’s a little bit enviable. Not many people get catered lunch on set by a personal chef! It does make me wonder why Anthony Mackie felt he needed to offer the security team pizza to get in later, but I guess we’d have to ask him about that.

We’re still learning about the plot of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, but I’m incredibly excited, especially to see Robert Downey Jr. play the classic Fantastic Four villain. Regardless of the story, it sounds like the actors had a good experience filming, which is a great sign the movie will be fantastic for fans.
