Minecraft has been popular for over 15 years, and it continues to thrive! As 2025 comes to a close, we’re celebrating another fantastic year for the game – packed with fun updates and incredible achievements from its amazing community.
Mojang Studios is celebrating with some fun facts and is giving away a free Inflatable Chicken Suit item in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Just visit the dressing room to claim it!
The popular video game is set for another exciting year, but before we look ahead, let’s take a moment to review what’s happened so far.
Keeping track of Minecraft player shenanigans

I just saw this cool image Mojang posted on X (formerly Twitter)! It’s a fun collection of random stats from the Minecraft community throughout 2025. Don’t go expecting big sales numbers or monthly player counts though – this year-end look is all about quirky details and isn’t taking things too seriously.
Players are really enjoying the recent additions to Minecraft! Since the copper golem was introduced earlier this year, nearly a billion have been created. Plus, over 270 million mounts have been tamed, and players have collectively traveled more than 335 billion blocks while riding them.
Most players still seem to be getting their saddles from treasure chests, even though they crafted them around 16 million times this year.
I was hoping to see some data about how much we customized Minecraft: Java Edition or used the Minecraft Marketplace, but that information wasn’t available.
A busy year filled with Minecraft updates

Trying to cover all the big Minecraft news from 2025 would result in an article so long, it would feel like reading a Wikipedia entry – not a quick and enjoyable read.
Let’s quickly go over some of the biggest Minecraft news from this year. I’ll start with Minecraft Live, one of two events Mojang held in 2025. I previously reported on the March 2025 event, which included announcements about the game’s first three updates of the year, as well as news about ‘A Minecraft Movie,’ and other exciting things.
The Minecraft movie came out in 2025 and was a huge success, breaking several records. I recently talked to people involved in making the film, which became available for streaming earlier this year. Plus, Mojang has hinted at a sequel arriving in 2027.
Minecraft had quite the 2025, so here’s the quick recap.
Let’s talk about Minecraft! We kicked off the year with the Spring to Life update, which made the game world feel more varied and added helpful improvements. Then came two updates back-to-back: Vibrant Visuals, which at long last gave Minecraft a graphics upgrade, and Chase the Skies, which let players fly around with friends on ghostly steeds.
Minecraft Live in September 2025 brought exciting news, including full details on what I think is the best Minecraft update of the year: The Copper Age. The final update, Mounts of Mayhem, added several new creatures and a completely new weapon.
But that’s not all the Minecraft news! I was really excited to hear Mojang is teaming up with King, the folks behind Candy Crush, to create a new mobile game called Minecraft Blast. And looking ahead to 2026, they’re making some cool changes for modders – they’re getting rid of code obfuscation, which will make things *much* easier. Plus, they’re revamping how version numbers work, which sounds like a good move for clarity.
There’s a lot more I could say, but I’ll keep it brief: Minecraft had a fantastic year! I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens in 2026. And just a reminder, Minecraft is currently on sale on all platforms for the first week of the new year.
