Hulk had a strong start in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, easily defeating enemies in his first two appearances. However, his story became less focused after that, with romantic interests and adventures on Sakaar distracting from his character growth. Things took a turn for the worse when Thanos defeated him, leading Hulk to largely disappear for the rest of the battle. Ultimately, Bruce Banner had to combine his intelligence and Hulk’s strength to create a completely new version – the Smart Hulk.
There’s still a chance for the Hulk to return to his classic form. Recent hints suggest we might see the powerful “Savage Hulk” appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. With other characters becoming increasingly strong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hulk needs to prove he’s still a force to be reckoned with.
7) Mephisto

You don’t need to physically fight the Hulk to defeat him. As seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, controlling his mind can be just as effective, like Wanda Maximoff did. Though he appears briefly in Ironheart, Mephisto demonstrates a similar ability to manipulate others. He likely has other strategies as well that will neutralize the Hulk’s incredible strength.
6) Galactus

I think it’s amazing how strong the Hulk is – remember when he took down that Fenris Wolf in Thor: Ragnarok? But honestly, that would be nothing compared to Galactus. This guy isn’t just strong, he’s on a whole different level with the Power Cosmic, and he literally eats planets to stay alive! Even the smartest people – all the brains from the Fantastic Four – couldn’t figure out a way to beat him. They just decided the best option was to try and send him somewhere else and pray he doesn’t come back!
5) Silver Surfer

The Hulk is known for his strength, not his speed, and Thor uses this to his advantage in their battle in Ragnarok. However, Silver Surfer is much faster—she can travel across entire galaxies in seconds. In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Galactus doesn’t even see her coming before she attacks him with incredible speed, sending him through a portal.
4) The Thing

It’s easy to overlook the intelligence behind The Thing’s tough appearance – he’s a skilled pilot and strategist. Because Hulk can’t access Bruce Banner’s intellect when he’s not in his Smart Hulk form, The Thing has a clear advantage. Plus, The Thing has defeated Hulk before. In one comic book storyline, while Hulk was being controlled, The Thing landed a single, powerful punch that knocked him unconscious.
3) Franklin Richards

Though often portrayed as a raging monster, Hulk has a protective instinct, especially when it comes to children – he’s a father now, and Skaar means everything to him. But Hulk might be challenged by Franklin Richards, a young hero with incredible power rivaling anyone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like the cosmic entity Galactus, Franklin wields the Power Cosmic, granting him the ability to warp reality and even resurrect the deceased.
2) Sentry

Now that the Avengers are gone, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is trying to create a new team called the Thunderbolts. Her plan involves Project Sentry, which brings Bob Reynolds into the mix. While Bob isn’t quite mentally stable, he’s incredibly powerful – easily surpassing a group of super soldiers and even posing a threat to the Hulk if angered. To make matters worse, Bob has a dangerous alter ego called the Void, who would be a serious problem for both Bruce Banner and the Hulk.
1) Infinity Hulk

The Hulk often boasts about being the strongest being alive, but he isn’t even the strongest he can be. In the Marvel Zombies comic series, we meet Infinity Hulk – a version of the hero who has absorbed the power of all the Infinity Stones. This incredibly powerful Hulk causes massive destruction to Scarlet Witch’s zombie army before eventually being defeated. The standard Hulk wouldn’t have been able to hold out for nearly as long.
