Netflix is showing once again that older movies can still be huge hits. A film released four years ago recently climbed to the top of Netflix’s charts, racking up nearly 5 million views since becoming available. This is particularly noteworthy because the movie wasn’t a blockbuster in theaters, earning $104 million on a $40 million budget.
Jason Statham has starred in many action films, and Wrath of Man is one of them. It’s currently the eighth most popular movie on Netflix, having previously reached number six. The film garnered 4.7 million views in its first week, adding to Statham’s string of streaming successes like Snatch, The Mechanic, Homefront, and Redemption.
Wrath of Man Reunites Jason Statham With His Best Director

Jason Statham didn’t become an action star overnight. He first gained recognition in the independent films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and the larger-budget Snatch (2000), both directed by Guy Ritchie. Ritchie is now known for directing films like Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes, Disney’s live-action Aladdin, and the spy comedy The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. Snatch gave Statham his first leading role, playing a small-time gambler caught up with dangerous criminals and gypsies. Although they worked together on the 2005 film Revolver, Statham and Ritchie didn’t collaborate again until Wrath of Man in 2021.
In Wrath of Man, Jason Statham stars as Patrick “H” Hill, a new and enigmatic security guard for an armored truck. During a robbery, he unexpectedly reveals exceptional skills, leaving his colleagues questioning his background and motives. It soon becomes clear that he’s driven by a personal vendetta and is determined to get revenge.
This plot – a classic tale of revenge and action – feels like something you’d expect from stars like Jason Statham or Liam Neeson. However, director Guy Ritchie brings a unique flair and visual style that sets this film apart.
In a review for ComicBook, Evan Valentine described Wrath of Man as a straightforward film that doesn’t necessarily suffer for its simplicity, but its lack of depth is still a weakness. While a simple movie can be effective, Wrath of Man doesn’t quite connect with viewers. Valentine felt the film was a missed opportunity, suggesting it needed more development and script revisions to create more compelling characters and avoid feeling like they only exist to serve the plot.
