Landman’s Cooper Norris Quietly Stole Tommy’s Best Trick

In Season 2, Episode 7 of Landman, a new character embodies the best traits of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris. Following the death of Monty Miller at the end of Season 1, Tommy is now in charge of M-Tex Oil, and his son, Cooper Norris (played by Jacob Lofland), is being prepared to take over the landman position.

The second season of Landman started strong on Paramount+, attracting 9.2 million viewers in its first two days – a significant jump of 262

Cooper Finally Proposes to Ariana In Landman Season 2, Episode 7

At the end of the latest episode, Cooper Norris surprises his girlfriend, Ariana Medina (played by Paulina Chavez), with a marriage proposal. He creates a romantic path leading to her door, using rose petals and candles, after she returns home from work at the Patch Café.

Cooper proposed to Ariana in their backyard, creating a romantic scene with a large heart made of rose petals and surrounded by candles. This proposal is what the latest episode of Landman is all about. Ariana playfully responds to Cooper’s proposal with, “Forever’s a long time,” and he sweetly replies, “No, it’ll be over before we know it, so let’s not waste a single moment.”

Cooper and Ariana began talking about marriage after they got back together following a brief split. The disagreement stemmed from Ariana feeling left out of Cooper’s big plans. Things started to improve when Ariana supported Cooper by attending his grandmother’s funeral, leading them to reconnect and consider a future together.

After making amends with Cooper and setting new boundaries, Ariana told Norris Jr. she wanted to live alone and no longer needed a roommate. Medina encouraged Cooper to propose, and he has since spoken with Ariana’s father, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Miguel’s grandmother, Rosemary Dominguez, to ask for their permission to marry Ariana and join their families.

Cooper needed one last thing to ask Ariana to marry him: an engagement ring. He finally got it from his mom, Angela, who gave him her own ring, feeling it held bad memories from her divorce. This means Cooper can propose without going into debt, and it also gives Angela and Tommy a chance to strengthen their own relationship.

Cooper’s Proposal Proves He Has Tommy Norris’ Best Quality

Cooper’s proposal to Ariana wasn’t perfect – there were a few awkward and nervous moments – but the rose petals and candles created a dreamy, romantic atmosphere, which was exactly what he hoped for. It’s clear Cooper gets his knack for making people feel special from his father, Norris Jr.

Tommy has been noticeably stressed and irritable since becoming president of M-Tex Oil, as his father observes in Season 2, Episode 7. But the show also reveals details about Tommy’s past, highlighting his surprisingly romantic side and ability to be a devoted husband through thoughtful and extravagant acts.

In Season 1, Episode 4 of Landman, Angela and Tommy have dinner with Tommy and Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) at the Patch. Angela shares a story about a past birthday, before their financial troubles, when Tommy tricked her into thinking they were going to Cancun, but instead surprised her with a glamorous black sequin gown and a private concert by George Strait.

Angela still vividly remembers dancing with Tommy to George Strait at the Overton Hotel, even after 16 years and a divorce. Tommy had fulfilled her lifelong dream of seeing the singer in concert. And Cooper’s thoughtful proposal shows he inherited his father’s good instincts, which is a great sign.

After the recent episode of Landman Season 2, “Forever Is an Instant,” only three episodes remain. This likely means we won’t see a full arc of Cooper Norris taking on the landman role at M-Tex this season, with that story probably continuing into Season 3. However, if Cooper does eventually take over, he’s already shown he has a similar knack for the job as Tommy.
