Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman are back for a second season of The Night Manager, the popular spy thriller on BBC. The new season will also feature Diego Calva, a quickly rising talent in the acting world.
While the Mexican actor isn’t widely known in the UK yet, this prominent role should significantly increase his visibility. He’s playing a mysterious character that’s certain to capture the audience’s attention.
In season two of The Night Manager, actor Calva portrays Teddy Dos Santos, an arms dealer who draws the attention of MI6 operative Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston). Pine suspects a link between Dos Santos and his former enemy, Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie), making Dos Santos a new target.
Will Jonathan succeed in repeating his bold move? Or will Teddy turn out to be an even more formidable opponent? Keep watching to find out, and read on to learn all about the new character Calva and what he brings to the show.
Who is Diego Calva?

Diego Calva is a Mexican actor who gained recognition for his work in the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico and the 2022 film Babylon.
He started his film career with a role in the independent Mexican movie, I Promise You Anarchy, playing a gay skateboarder caught up in a dangerous blood trafficking operation.
He first appeared on Netflix in the 2020 drama Unstoppable, playing a supporting character – the controlling ex-boyfriend of a woman trying to escape a life of crime.
The next year, he played the role of drug kingpin Arturo Beltrán Leyva in Narcos: Mexico, a continuation of the original Narcos series. The show also featured Scoot McNairy (known for A Complete Unknown) and the musician Bad Bunny (who previously faced legal trouble for theft).

This role helped propel Calva into the major film Babylon, directed by Damien Chazelle, the creator of La La Land. The movie depicted the wild and chaotic beginnings of Hollywood. Calva portrayed a Mexican immigrant from a working-class background who was determined to achieve his dreams.
Okay, so I was really excited for Babylon with Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, but honestly, it didn’t do well in theaters. It really split people too – some absolutely loved how it celebrated old Hollywood and the magic of movies, while others thought it was just way too over the top and excessive. It was a bit of a wild ride, and clearly not everyone enjoyed it!
Calva did, however, receive a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
More recently, he’s become known for Bird Box Barcelona, a Spanish-language continuation of the popular film, and the intense Netflix series, The Secret of the River.
Who is Teddy Dos Santos in The Night Manager?

Teddy Dos Santos, portrayed by Diego Calva, is an arms dealer who catches the eye of Jonathan Pine. He seems to be following a similar strategy to the one previously used by Richard Roper (played by Hugh Laurie).
Following a similar strategy to his work with Roper, Jonathan attempts to dismantle Teddy’s criminal enterprise by getting close to him. However, he’ll need to outsmart this new and unpredictable opponent to succeed.
Tom Hiddleston, known for his role in The Night Manager, has spoken highly of his colleagues. He was particularly impressed by both Diego Calva and Camila Morrone, calling Calva’s performance “majestic, thoughtful, and sensitive.”
What has Diego Calva said about joining The Night Manager?

Diego Calva, the newest addition to season two of The Night Manager, shared that he feels both “lucky and proud” to be working alongside Tom Hiddleston and Camila Morrone.
The actor described his costars as family. After working together for nine years since the show began, many of them already had close relationships, and they made him feel instantly included.
Tom is an incredibly focused, energetic, and engaging actor – one of the best I’ve ever collaborated with. Working with people who are so dedicated inspires you to raise your own game.
Calva hinted at what’s ahead this season, describing it as full of heart and emotion. He explained it’s more than just a suspenseful spy story—it’s a tale about broken trust and the bonds of family.
Teddy’s story is also one of faith and hope, and I believe many people will find it relatable.
The Night Manager season 2 is airing Sundays on BBC One and iPlayer.
