Danny Dyer shares his thoughts on timeless comedies, acknowledging that the humor from shows he watched growing up might not resonate as strongly in today’s society.
The award-winning actor is set to return to our screens on July 24th for the second season of Sky’s Mr Bigstuff. In this new installment, his character, Lee, along with his brother Glen (played by Ryan Sampson), embark on a quest to locate their father who was previously thought to be deceased.
Following a series of successful comedic performances throughout the past year, such as those in Disney+’s Rivals, Dyer discussed with TopMob magazine his preferred style of humor that he enjoys watching.
He confessed that he’s not fond of the style of comedy with pre-recorded laugh tracks, reminiscent of his past – to him, shows like “Only Fools and Horses” don’t resonate as well anymore.
Instead, Dyer shared that he derives pleasure from the stand-up routines of Bill Hicks or Ricky Gervais, describing their humor as “uncensored”.

He also mentioned that in his opinion, neither Gervais nor any other individual has managed to create a character as iconic as David Brent from The Office, a role that embodies someone who is excessively self-absorbed without even realizing how boorish they can be.
In a sense, the truth about Lee could be likened to a steamroller that rolled back into his estranged brother Glen’s life during the initial season of Mr Bigstuff, showing off an overbearing demeanor.
Most of the time, Lee, who often had an injury and was constantly puffing on cigarettes, moved into the house shared by the tense Glen and his partner, Kirsty (portrayed by Harriet Webb). Alongside him came upheaval and a canister filled with his father’s remains.
As more problems arose, it was revealed at the end of the season that Glen and Lee’s father hadn’t truly passed away – he had instead staged his own death and fled to Spain instead.
In about two weeks, viewers will rejoin the story as they find out how the two contrasting siblings have responded to the latest news.
Ultimately choosing to locate their father, further complications are likely to arise for the duo as they seek clarification from the individual who has all the necessary information.
As a follower, I’m thrilled to share that an impressive lineup of guest stars will grace our screens throughout the series. Among them are Rula Lenska, known for her role in Coronation Street, Shaun Williamson, who charmed us in Extras, Shobna Gulati, another familiar face from Coronation Street, David Mumeni from Stath Lets Flats, and Alan Ford, remembered for his role in Snatch.
One of the standout newcomers is Linda Henry, formerly of EastEnders with Danny, taking on the role of Pam. This fresh character is depicted as a straight-talking, practical mechanic who works at the family’s transportation company.
