Often, turning classic villains into heroes doesn’t quite work. While it can be successful in some cases, it frequently diminishes the impact of established heroes by removing their iconic villains, or it fundamentally changes the villain’s character for the worse. These seven Marvel characters were simply more compelling as villains and haven’t benefited from the shift.
Netflix’s new thriller, 180, is quickly becoming a hit around the world. It’s currently the second most popular movie on the platform, just behind Thrash, and landed in the Top 10 movies in the U.S. during its first week.
The movie tries to cover too much ground in its almost three-hour length, which makes it feel chaotic. It immediately throws viewers into a complex setting, the Infinity Castle, with several large battles happening right away. While it stays true to the story from the manga, the film doesn’t flow well as a standalone movie. It feels disjointed, with multiple moments that feel like the ending. This is why many still consider the first Demon Slayer movie, Mugen Train, which came out over five years ago, to be a stronger film, despite the high production value and length of Infinity Castle.
Just recently, a brand new indie developer called Kraken Express launched their first game, Windrose. It’s a pirate-themed survival adventure where players team up against the environment, and it’s been a huge success! Currently, Windrose is the top-selling game on Steam and boasts a very positive 89% approval rating from over 13,000 players. What makes this even more remarkable is that the game is still in early access – meaning it’s not fully finished – and usually these versions aren’t as refined.
Joey Quinn’s increased presence in the new season highlights how Resurrection connects Dexter’s former life – working as a blood spatter analyst and secretly being a killer – to his current life in New York. Like Angel Batista in season one, Quinn’s return isn’t just for fans’ sake. He appears to be a significant new challenge for Dexter, bringing up unresolved issues between them instead of just making a quick appearance.

In 1958, a potentially disastrous television show called The Adventures of Superpup was thankfully canceled before it aired. Had it been allowed to continue, the show – featuring a flying dog in a cape – might have been too upsetting for audiences still reeling from past traumas. Some speculate that on another Earth, the very idea of a super-powered canine could have caused widespread panic. Thankfully, network executives intervened, preventing what could have been a truly damaging impact on both the Superman franchise and public morale.
Lately, HBO’s been making a real push into fantasy – we’ve had the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, and the His Dark Materials series, which were both good. But honestly, the best fantasy show they’re doing right now, in my opinion, is another one set in the world of Westeros: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I actually think its first season was even stronger than House of the Dragon.
I’m still baffled that Hannibal, a show critics and audiences loved – seriously, 93% and 94% on Rotten Tomatoes! – only got one Emmy nomination across three seasons. It’s been 11 years, but people – especially Mads Mikkelsen and the rest of us fans – are still desperately hoping someone will revive it. Mike Flanagan is doing amazing things with horror on streaming, but let’s be real, Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal is still the best horror on TV, and it deserves a second life!
