You never forget your first Oscar nomination.
Due to the widespread wildfires in Los Angeles County, the 2025 Academy Award nominations were ultimately unveiled during an online ceremony held on January 23. Notably, there was a significant number of first-time nominees across various categories, particularly among actors and actresses.
Demi Moore received her initial Oscar nomination for Best Actress, marking four decades in the entertainment world, due to her performance in “The Substance.” She was accompanied by several other first-time Best Actress nominees such as Karla Sofía Gascón (for “Emilia Pérez”), Mikey Madison (for “Anora”), and Fernanda Torres (for “I’m Still Here”).
Shortly after her nomination was announced, Demi shared just how much the accolade meant to her.
She expressed to TopMob News on January 23rd that being nominated for an Oscar is a profound honor, surpassing even her most imaginative expectations. In truth, words fall short in expressing my immense joy and heartfelt gratitude for this acknowledgment. It’s not just about me, but what the film stands for. I am incredibly humbled by this recognition.
I’m finding myself deeply moved amidst these striking contrasts. Here in LA, my feelings are split between worry for my loved ones, friends, neighbors, and community – all affected by the devastating fires. Yet, witnessing our unity in adversity fills me with awe. The resilience and compassion displayed here is a testament to who we are as a community, reminding me of our incredible strength when standing together.
The Best Supporting Actress category was brimming with novelty, as Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave) were among those who made their mark in this category.
Ariana too expressed her joy over receiving her first Oscar nomination on Instagram on January 23rd, mentioning, “Taking a moment between the tears to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this incredible honor. I just can’t stop crying, as expected by everyone.
As I bask in the radiance of such extraordinary companionship, I can’t help but feel profoundly grateful and humbled. Sharing this momentous occasion with little Ari, who was captivated by Judy Garland’s enchanting rendition of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, just before the magical bubble appeared, adds a layer of magic to my experience. I am so incredibly proud of you, little one. Once again, thank you from the depths of my heart for this heartfelt recognition, @theacademy.
However, contrary to the misconception that Sebastian Stan had received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor in “The Apprentice”, it was actually Timothée Chalamet (for “A Complete Unknown”), Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”), Ralph Fiennes (“Conclave”) and Adrien Brody (“The Brutalist”) who were the other nominees in that category, with Stan not being among them.
Notably, fresh talents like Kieran Culkin (from the film “A Real Pain”), Yura Borisov (in “Anora”), and Jeremy Strong (starring in “The Apprentice”) were among those vying for the Best Supporting Actor award.
