Zack Snyder is a well-known Hollywood director with popular films like 300, Man of Steel, and Justice League to his name. Over the last twenty years, he’s become famous for his unique and visually impressive style, delivering several blockbuster hits. Now, after releasing Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver in 2024 and with another film, The Last Photograph, on the way, fans can enjoy one of Snyder’s best movies, as it’s now available on a new streaming service.
Zack Snyder’s first feature film, Dawn of the Dead, is still considered one of his best, even after 21 years. It became available on Netflix at the start of the year. The movie, a remake of the 1978 George A. Romero classic, brought Snyder together with screenwriter James Gunn. Set in a zombie-infested America, the film follows a group of people who take refuge in a shopping mall in Milwaukee. Dawn of the Dead earned $102 million at the box office when it was released in 2004.
Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead Is One of His Best Movies
Even though George Romero wasn’t thrilled with it, Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead is widely considered a fantastic zombie film and one of the best horror remakes ever made. It was Snyder’s impressive first feature film and established his trademark style: creating detailed, believable worlds, focusing on fast-paced, visually striking action, and a unique look. Snyder’s take on the story emphasized non-stop zombie action and the struggle to survive, moving away from the original’s social commentary. He introduced faster, more ferocious zombies – similar to those in 28 Days Later – and generally upped the intensity and thrills.
I absolutely love Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead. It’s just pure, non-stop entertainment – seriously scary and so much fun! What’s really cool is how it pays tribute to the original Dawn of the Dead while also feeling totally fresh and setting the stage for so many zombie movies we’ve seen since. Even after all these years, it still holds up incredibly well – I think it’s one of Snyder’s best films. The numbers back it up too; it has a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating from critics and a 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of his most popular and well-regarded movies.
What’s New on Netflix?
Netflix is offering a lot of exciting content this January! Among the new additions is Zack Snyder’s remake of Dawn of the Dead. A large number of titles became available on January 1st, including movies like District 9, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Man on Fire, and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, plus all five seasons of Falling Skies and the film Priscilla. More shows and movies will be added throughout the month, with Stone Cold Fox coming on January 9th, followed by all five seasons of Southland, and the first episodes of Bridgerton Season 4.
