New PlayStation Collection Announcement Is Dividing Fans

Sony, similar to Nintendo and Microsoft, often surprises fans with announcements of new hardware. With over thirty years of PlayStation history, there’s a wealth of beloved games and designs they can revisit and reimagine.

Sony recently revealed a new lineup on X, and the response from fans has been varied. If you’re interested, pre-orders will be available shortly.

New PS5 Console & Controller Designs

Three New Controllers And PS5 Plates

Sony is releasing a new line of PlayStation 5 consoles in three fresh colors, the company recently announced.

  • Techno Red
  • Remix Green
  • Rhythm Blue

The “Hyperpop Collection” includes new colors for both DualSense controllers and PS5 console covers. There will be three color options available for each, but please note the console covers won’t work with the PS5 Pro.

Sae Kobayashi, a designer at Sony, explained that the new DualSense controller and console covers have a smooth, color-changing gradient with a shiny finish, making the colors really stand out. There’s also a slight see-through effect on the covers. However, the bold new colors have received a mixed reaction from fans online and on the PlayStation Blog.

Honestly, as a PS5 Pro owner, I’m really baffled by Sony. I keep seeing other fans asking the same thing: where are the faceplates? We dropped almost a thousand euros on this console, and it feels like they’re not really supporting it with even simple things like custom plates. I rarely bother to comment on things online, but I had to log in and say it’s just ridiculous that we haven’t gotten any yet. The whole community seems to feel the same way!

Many people are drawn to Hyperpop’s striking visual elements, sparking a wide range of reactions. Some love the look, while others find it unappealing. One commenter even noticed a playful connection between the genre’s color schemes – red, green, and blue – and the branding of Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.

Where To Preorder The New Items

Sony Is Selling Them Soon

Hyperpop controllers and plates will be available for purchase starting January 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time in the United States, and 10:00 AM local time in the U.K. and certain European countries. You can buy them directly from the PlayStation store. Please note that these plates are not designed to work with the PS5 Pro console.

Even though not all accessories work with it and prices are still going up, Sony is still releasing new PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. This time, it’s not tied to a major game release, which means it should be easier to buy one without having to compete with resellers and automated bots.
