As a movie reviewer, I’ve seen a lot of Spider-Man films, and it’s easy to see why he’s such a popular hero. We’ve gotten so many big-screen adventures since the early 2000s, and some are truly fantastic. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 still holds up as one of the best comic book movies ever made, even twenty years later. More recently, Spider-Man: No Way Home was a brilliant move, bringing together different generations of Spider-Man films and giving the Marvel Cinematic Universe a real boost. And it’s not just live-action – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is easily one of the best films of the last decade, and it’s still finding new fans on Netflix!
From December 29th, 2025, to January 4th, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ranked as the second most popular movie on Netflix. It was only behind Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story in the streaming service’s top 10 list. The movie unexpectedly appeared on Netflix in late December, and many fans quickly added it to their viewing lists. The ongoing popularity of the Spider-Verse series is encouraging, suggesting it will remain successful for a long time.
The Spider-Verse Trilogy Will Finally Conclude Next Year

The animated film Into the Spider-Verse was a huge success, winning an Oscar and making nearly $395 million worldwide. This led to a sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which also did very well with audiences and critics. However, the sequel ended with a major cliffhanger, leaving Miles Morales stranded in another universe. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the story to continue. A third film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was originally planned for 2024, but after several postponements, it’s now expected to be released in June 2027.
It’s unclear if the main Spider-Verse story will continue after Beyond the Spider-Verse, but the franchise is planning to grow with new spin-off projects. A movie starring Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk is currently in the works. Previously, there were discussions about a Spider-Gwen movie and even Spider-Verse TV series, so it will be interesting to see where the franchise goes in the next few years. Given how successful Spider-Verse has been for Sony, they’ll likely want to keep making these movies for a long time.
Looking back, it’s amusing to remember that not everyone was sure about Into the Spider-Verse at first. With live-action Spider-Man films already popular, some questioned whether an animated movie could succeed. But true to the style of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the film took a risky idea and turned it into something truly remarkable. Into the Spider-Verse was full of heart and imagination, captivating audiences with its unique visuals and moving story. Released during a crowded era of superhero movies, it really stood out and proved what could happen when creators fully embraced animation. Now, it’s impossible to consider comic book adaptations without acknowledging its influence.
Given how highly praised Into the Spider-Verse is, it’s no surprise it’s popular on Netflix. That first film really raised the standard for superhero movies and its sequels. Thankfully, Across the Spider-Verse lived up to the hype, and fans are hoping Beyond the Spider-Verse will provide a satisfying ending to the trilogy next year. The filmmakers are clearly dedicated to quality, and their enthusiasm shines through in the movies. While we wait for news about Beyond the Spider-Verse, revisiting the original Into the Spider-Verse is a fantastic way to enjoy the story again.
