The Marvel Cinematic Universe will launch Phase 7 and a brand new story arc with two big movies in 2028. The Infinity Saga concluded with Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, immediately following Avengers: Endgame. Then, in 2021, Black Widow kicked off Phase 4 and also began the Multiverse Saga.
Marvel’s Phase 6 will conclude with the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027, also bringing the Multiverse Saga to an end. The projects launching in 2028 will then begin Phase 8 and a new saga, anticipated to focus on the Mutants.
Marvel Studios hasn’t yet confirmed which movies will actually come out on the dates Disney and Marvel have already scheduled. They’ve currently reserved February 18, May 5, and November 10 of 2028 for future MCU films, but haven’t specified which ones.

Several sources indicate that Marvel is currently planning to release Black Panther 3 and the long-awaited X-Men movie as the first two films of 2028. These movies are tentatively scheduled for release on February 18th and May 5th, 2028, respectively.
If this is true, those two movies would come after Avengers: Secret Wars. While people already thought those films would be significant, directly following Secret Wars would make them even more important for the future of the franchise.
Now that the movies have been announced, fans are eager to know when each one will be released. While there are potential advantages to releasing each film at different times, Marvel and Disney haven’t made an official announcement. However, some reports suggest a release schedule has already been decided.
Will Black Panther 3 or X-Men Be Released First?

Sources familiar with Marvel Studios’ plans say that release dates for both Black Panther 3 and a new X-Men movie have been set. While these plans aren’t final and could shift, current reports suggest Black Panther 3 is scheduled to come out before the X-Men film.
If everything goes as planned, Black Panther 3 is currently scheduled to be released on February 18, 2028. This would make it the first Marvel film following Secret Wars, and the events of that movie might have some impact on the beginning of Black Panther 3.
The success of Secret Wars will create high expectations for Black Panther 3, as it will be the first film released afterward. If Secret Wars performs well, Marvel anticipates a large audience returning to theaters shortly after to see the future of the franchise.
With Black Panther scheduled for February, X-Men is now set to release on May 5, 2028. While some fans might prefer X-Men to come out right after Secret Wars, both are huge films, so it’s probably better to space them apart.
If the X-Men movie were released in February, it would mean two highly anticipated films would be coming out very close together. While dedicated fans would likely see both, most moviegoers probably wouldn’t, given the short time between releases.
Marvel still recognizes the importance of a Black Panther 3 – it’s a crucial film. However, looking ahead at the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the success of the X-Men franchise is now a higher priority than the success of other movies.
