Gwyneth Paltrow says she lost a movie role after announcing her divorce from Chris Martin ten years following their highly publicized “conscious uncoupling.” The Oscar winner, known for her role in Shakespeare in Love, and the Coldplay singer share two children, Apple and Moses. Paltrow has since remarried to Brad Falchuk, co-creator of American Horror Story. She recently told Amy Poehler on the Good Hang podcast that the negative media attention surrounding her split impacted her career.
I had a movie project lined up once, shortly after my public split from Chris. There was a lot of negative press surrounding it, and I believe the company releasing the film worried it would be too controversial.
Amy Poehler, who had publicly split from her husband Will Arnett that same year, shared that the producers had said, ‘We don’t need the extra attention.’ Gwyneth Paltrow chimed in jokingly, ‘Exactly! It was fantastic – I was getting divorced and fired. So great!’ They didn’t mention which movie she lost her role in during the conversation.
‘Marty Supreme’ Star Gwyneth Paltrow Refused Intimacy Coordinator on Set

A24
Gwyneth Paltrow is currently promoting her new film, Marty Supreme, during a packed awards season. The A24 drama, directed by Josh Safdie (brother of Benny Safdie, known for The Smashing Machine), stars Timothée Chalamet and tells the story of a talented ping-pong player from New York City’s Lower East Side. Paltrow plays Kay Stone, who has an affair with Marty Mauser (Chalamet) while married to Milton Rockwell.
Gwyneth Paltrow told Vanity Fair that she and Timothée Chalamet felt comfortable enough during filming that they didn’t need an intimacy coordinator, which is a practice that has become standard in the film industry following the #MeToo movement.
We felt confident and asked them to give us some space. I can’t speak for beginners, but if someone started telling me exactly how to position my hand while I was creating, I’d feel really restricted as an artist.
Honestly, I was shocked to hear about this whole situation with Gwyneth and a crew member. Apparently, someone pulled her aside to ask if she was comfortable with how a sex scene might be filmed. And her response? She basically said things were different back when she started – she’s from a generation where intimacy on screen was just part of the job, and they didn’t need all this extra discussion. It just feels like a huge difference in how things are handled now, and it’s pretty interesting to hear her perspective on it.

During the filming of Marty Supreme, Timothée Chalamet reportedly insisted on performing his own spanking scene, refusing to use a body double. Kevin O’Leary, a fellow actor, shared with Variety that Chalamet didn’t want someone else’s rear end shown on screen. O’Leary recalled Chalamet stating he would do the scene himself, not wanting another person’s backside to be part of the film. The director ended up needing 40 takes to get the shot exactly right, repeatedly asking O’Leary to hit Chalamet harder.
