Just before the end of 2025, another major video game release was delayed. 007: First Light is now scheduled for May 2026, instead of its previously planned March 2026 date. We can expect more delays this year, as many games still only have approximate release dates. If all the games currently planned for 2026 actually launch on time, it will be a very busy year for gamers. However, based on current rumors, some of the most highly anticipated games might be delayed again.
2024 promises several highly anticipated blockbuster games, including the much-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 and Witchbrook, a competitor to Hogwarts Legacy, plus new entries in popular series. However, recent years have shown us that announced release dates aren’t always reliable. According to leaks and rumors, at least three of the biggest potential games for 2026 might be pushed back to a later date.
3) Marvel’s Wolverine

Insomniac’s upcoming Marvel game is currently on track for a Fall 2026 release, and development seems to be progressing well. Despite the delay of GTA 6 to the same period, Insomniac has reaffirmed its commitment to the release date. While it’s understandable they wouldn’t move aside for a previously delayed game, there’s still a possibility Marvel’s Wolverine could face further delays due to unforeseen issues. Insomniac has revealed some gameplay, but it appears to be building on familiar mechanics, and many details are still unknown.
So, I’ve been hearing from people in the know that Marvel’s Wolverine is now aiming for a September or October launch. Apparently, they’re trying to steer clear of November because of GTA 6 dropping around then. The problem is, Wolverine already got pushed back once from its original 2024 date. Rushing to avoid GTA 6 could actually hurt the game’s quality, and if it looks like it’s going to come out around the same time as GTA 6 anyway, or even get delayed all the way to 2027, it sounds like Sony would rather just push it back again. Honestly, until we get a firm release date, I’m expecting another delay for Marvel’s Wolverine.
2) Fable

We’ll finally get a detailed look at the game Fable during the Xbox Developer Direct on January 22nd. However, even if Playground Games shows off gameplay, it doesn’t guarantee the game will be released this year. Fable was originally planned for release last year but was delayed to 2026, and currently has no firm release date. There’s growing speculation that it may even be pushed back from its 2026 target.
People are starting to wonder if Fable will be delayed because we haven’t seen much gameplay or gotten many details about it. The recent Developer Direct showcased Playground Games, so that might ease some of those concerns. We should find out more about the release date soon, but it’s still uncertain if the game will actually meet that date. As we’ve seen with games like GTA 6 and Witchbrook, delays can happen even when a game is close to release. While many hope Fable will still come out in 2026, there’s a chance it could be pushed back to 2027 due to reports of a longer development process.
1) GTA 6

It’s beginning to seem more probable that GTA 6 will be delayed rather than released on time. The game’s release has already been postponed several times, most recently shifting from mid-2026 to November 2026. While there’s an official release date set, it’s still quite a ways off. Recent reports are mixed – some suggest the November 19th date is firm, but others, including trusted insider Jason Schreier, indicate the game isn’t complete and Rockstar is worried about meeting the deadline.
Many fans are hoping to play GTA 6 in 2026, but it’s still uncertain if that will happen. If Rockstar Games starts heavily promoting the game soon, a November 19th release date will seem more likely. For now, I’ll remain cautiously optimistic and believe it when I actually see the game.
