These Heated Rivalry questions deserve some sunshine.
François Arnaud was glad to talk to the audience. He shared that his character, Scott Hunter, and his boyfriend, Kip Grady (played by Robbie Graham-Kuntz), weren’t originally planned to split up for three years before the hockey player publicly confessed his feelings.
François explained in an upcoming interview on SiriusXM’s Smith Sisters Live that a mistake with the order of events during filming created problems. While the overall concept was strong, the way the two storylines were connected—specifically, how they transitioned between them—wasn’t well planned.
Oh my gosh, watching Captain Rex’s storyline was EVERYTHING. It was so intense seeing him struggle with his feelings and ultimately break up with Kip in episode three because he was scared to be himself! And it was happening at the same time as Shane Hollander (that’s Hudson Williams, by the way!) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie, swoon!) were living out their epic, almost ten-year romance. Seriously, the layers of drama and love were just chef’s kiss!
François explained that they filmed the project expecting it to be released six months after Kip’s birthday and before the America’s Cup. However, it ended up taking three years to complete.
The actor, age 40, whose character famously won the MVP award by kissing Kip on the ice after the Admirals won the championship, shared that some lines were actually altered after filming to fit the story’s timeline.

The actor from Yellowjackets recalled a specific line from episode six: ‘Fear is a powerful thing, but this year I found the one thing that is more powerful.’ They explained that during filming, the scene was finalized with that delivery, but the wording felt off. The line needed to convey finding something more powerful, but it shouldn’t have been tied to ‘this year.’
Rather than focus on difficulties, Scott, while speaking at the podium, shared a realization: “Fear can be strong, but I discovered something even stronger.”
But François also commended the editing that made the timeline make sense, noting that “it works.”
With season two of Heated Rivalry – starring Scott, Kip, Shane, and Ilya – scheduled to start filming this summer, here’s a look at other TV shows coming soon.
