The highly anticipated R-rated Mortal Kombat 2 trailer is set to debut in July, according to producer Todd Garner. This means fans can soon witness martial arts sensation and blockbuster star Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) in action. Garner recently shared a sneak peek of the film’s red-band trailer, hinting at gruesome, graphically violent fatalities, and tweeted two weeks ago, “By the end of this month, there will be blood.
Warner Bros. Pictures is stepping up the marketing efforts for the upcoming film adaptation of a video game, produced by New Line Cinema and Atomic Monster. They initially released a poster for the fictional action movie “Uncaged Fury” (from the studio known for “Rebel Without a Cage”) in February, and more recently, a vintage ’90s-style DVD cover has reappeared.
Ed Boon, one of the creators of Mortal Kombat, posted on Twitter yesterday that he believes he’s found both the poster and an old DVD with a sneak peek trailer for the movie Uncaged Fury. To keep fans excited in the meantime, Boon released a fresh glimpse of the action star donning sunglasses in Uncaged Fury, along with a playful cover that seems to mimic the intense posters from movies like Die Hard 2 (1990) and Mission: Impossible 2 (2000).
Additionally, the official account of the movie “MK” tweeted about the IMDb page for the talented actor and martial artist, who has been affectionately named Johnny F-ing Cage due to his impressive accolades: winner of “Best Fight in a Feature Film” and “Best Sunglasses.” Known for films such as “Hard to Cage,” “The Gist of My Fist,” “Cool Hand Cage,” and “Caged Rage,” all of which boast an average rating of 6.9 on the internet movie database.
Johnny Cage, whose real name is Jonathan Carlton, is recognized as a skilled martial artist, action movie star, and avid sunglasses fan. His IMDb biography notes that he’s the lead in popular films such as ‘A Cage Is Born’, ‘Center Cage II: Turn It Off’, ‘Ice Cage II: Meltdown’, and the unexpectedly heartwarming ‘Bonnie and Cage’. He is particularly famous for executing his impressive fight scenes without relying on special effects, a testament to his rigorous martial arts training, and for his striking good looks.

In the Mortal Kombat movie I’m talking about, which was brought to life by Boon and John Tobias, I found myself immersed in a world where Adeline Rudolph takes on the role of Kitana, Jessica McNamee becomes Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson transforms into Kano, Ludi Lin embodies Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks plays Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Tati Gabrielle brings Jade to life, Lewis Tan steps into the shoes of Cole Young, Damon Herriman portrays Quan Chi, Chin Han assumes the role of Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano becomes Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim breathes life into Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada portrays both Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.
Screenwriter Jeremy Slater expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel, saying, ‘People are going to love seeing this movie!’ He explained that the project has been completed for some time and they’ve been carefully choosing the perfect release date. Watching test screenings filled with Mortal Kombat fans react in much the same way as he did after watching Avengers: Endgame left him ecstatic. They were cheering, jumping out of their seats, and finding the humor delightful. This experience is one of the most memorable moments in his career.
Mortal Kombat II opens only in theaters and IMAX on Oct. 24.
