The DCU Is Officially Casting Its First Thanos-Level Villain, Years After the Snyderverse Wasted Them

The DC Universe is starting strong, with a new live-action Superman movie launching the franchise in 2025. Led by James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios, the DC Comics heroes and villains are getting a fresh start in movies and television. After the previous DC movie universe didn’t quite succeed, fans are particularly invested in the casting choices, hoping to see their favorite characters portrayed accurately. So far, the casting has been good, but there’s still some uncertainty about roles that haven’t been announced yet.

Adapting DC’s long and complex history for the screen is challenging, but the new DC Universe (DCU) seems to be laying the groundwork for a significant villain. Ahead of the upcoming Mister Miracle show, creator Tom King confirmed that Darkseid is being cast as a character in the series. In an interview with Wordballoon, King explained that Mister Miracle will have a large impact on the overall DCU and that they’ve officially cast Darkseid. Given James Gunn’s statements about animated voice actors reprising their roles in live-action, this casting suggests Darkseid will likely become a major player in the DCU’s future.

What Mister Miracle Means For Darkseid’s DCU Future

The possibility that Mister Miracle has already, or will soon, bring Darkseid into the DC Universe is really exciting news. Darkseid is a hugely powerful villain, often seen as the DC equivalent of Marvel’s Thanos. Given that the previous DC movie universe struggled to establish Darkseid as a major threat, the idea of him appearing in the new franchise is particularly intriguing.

James Gunn has said he doesn’t plan to make Darkseid the main villain of the new DC Universe, and considering how the character was used in the previous DC movies, that makes sense. While the news that someone has been cast to play Darkseid might not be as exciting as it could be, he could still appear on screen relatively soon. He might not be a central villain, but getting an actor in place is a positive sign for the future of the franchise.

Darkseid has a lot of potential story paths within the DC Universe, and the actor who voiced him in Mister Miracle is very likely to play the character in live-action, which is generating a lot of buzz. Even before we know exactly how powerful he’ll be in the new DCU, casting his actor in Mister Miracle is a huge win for DC fans.
