After twelve years, Elder Scrolls Online will finally support crossplay, letting players on different platforms play together. Developers ZeniMax Online Studios first hinted at the feature in October 2025, telling Forbes it was in development. They recently confirmed in a Reddit Q&A that while still being worked on, crossplay won’t be released in 2026.
Also in that discussion, executive producer Susan Kath announced that the game will soon support both crossplay and cross-progression, meaning players will be able to play with others on different platforms and carry their progress between them.
Honestly, it’s tough to say when we’ll actually get these features, but 2027 is the earliest I’ve heard. Crossplay and cross-progression in MMOs are super rare, which makes sense – getting everyone playing together on different platforms is a huge headache for the devs. It’s a lot more complicated than just making a game for PC alone, so it’s taking a while.
The ability to carry your progress across different platforms is fantastic news for players wanting to experience Tamriel on various devices. However, it’s currently unclear how this will work with PC add-ons – will you need to repurchase them for other platforms? And what does this mean for players who have already made substantial progress on both console and PC? It seems like those details are still being worked out for the next year.
Let’s hope recent changes and the plans for 2026 help improve The Elder Scrolls Online. 2025 was a tough year for the game, especially after the lead director left following layoffs and the cancellation of a new project. Despite these challenges, it remains a top-tier MMO on PC, and it’s set to become even better when it expands to Xbox and Playstation, allowing more friends to join the adventure.
