Dragon Ball Z: 5 Most Iconic Goku Techniques Ranked

As a huge fan, I still remember when Dragon Ball first hit the scene over four decades ago – it totally changed the game for Shonen manga and anime! It quickly became popular in Japan after appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump, but it wasn’t long before it exploded worldwide with the anime. Honestly, Dragon Ball has had a massive impact on the entire Shonen genre, really shaping it into what we all love today. It’s become legendary not just for its incredible battles and hype moments, but because it basically created so many of the tropes we see in popular manga and anime even now, inspiring tons of creators!

Throughout the years, the Dragon Ball series has given us many exciting moments with Goku. The story continues in Dragon Ball Z after a period of time has passed, and we see Goku constantly improving as a fighter. He masters amazing new abilities through intense training, even after becoming a Super Saiyan. While his transformations often steal the show, his fighting techniques are just as impressive.

5) Fusion Dance

Goku first used this powerful technique during the fight against Buu as a desperate measure. He picked up a funny dance from the Metamor people while training in the afterlife after defeating Cell. This dance allows two people to fuse together, temporarily boosting their strength. Although Trunks and Goten are usually the ones who fuse, Goku’s fusion with Vegeta against Buu was a surprising and memorable moment in the series, creating an unforgettable team-up.

4) Instant Transmission

After a near-fatal fight with Frieza, Goku found himself stranded on Planet Yardrat when Namek exploded and his spaceship was damaged. The Yardrats taught him a powerful technique called Instant Transmission, letting him teleport instantly across vast distances. This skill proved invaluable on multiple occasions, most notably during the Cell Games when he used it to move Cell to King Kai’s planet and save Earth.

3) Kaoiken

After Raditz died, the Saiyans began heading to Earth, but Goku was training with King Kai – even though he was already deceased. Kami allowed Goku to maintain his body after death, leading him to meet King Kai, who taught him the Kaio-ken technique. This unique ability briefly multiplies Goku’s energy and power, turning his aura red and dramatically increasing his speed and strength. Goku has refined and used different versions of the Kaio-ken over time, and it has consistently given him the edge he needed in tough battles.

2) Spirit Bomb

The Spirit Bomb is a powerful attack Goku learned from King Kai. Its strength isn’t fixed – it relies on gathering energy from living beings to create a massive blast. Goku can draw power from any life form, and because of his pure heart, he’s able to collect and control this energy to unleash a devastating attack.

1) Kamehameha

The Kamehameha is a hugely recognizable attack, even people who don’t watch anime often know what it is. Goku learned it quickly as a child by watching Master Roshi perform it once, though it took Roshi over 50 years to master. Since then, Goku has developed many different versions of the Kamehameha, making it his signature move and a reliable way to get out of trouble.
