The action RPG Beast of Reincarnation, where you play with a dog companion, is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store) this summer. Publisher Fictions and developer Game Freak also announced it will be available on Xbox Game Pass.
Here are the latest details, via Xbox Wire:
2026 AD: The Journey of Emma and Koo
The protagonists of this story, Emma and Koo, meet in a land to the East.
Emma was born with a mysterious condition called “blight” that gives her the ability to control plants. Because she has no memories or feelings, people are afraid of her and avoid her, leaving her completely alone.
Koo is a dangerous creature called a “malefact,” a serious threat to the world. Emma is a “sealer,” meaning she must hunt these malefacts and take their harmful energy into herself.
Emma and Koo shouldn’t be able to exist in the same world, but destiny brings them together. Their adventure leads them to the Wild West, where they face a powerful evil known as the Beast of Reincarnation – the cause of a spreading corruption. This corruption dramatically changes the land, creating dangerous, overgrown forests controlled by giant, malevolent spirits called Nushi. Emma and Koo must battle through these forests and defeat the Nushi to gain their powers and abilities. Ultimately, they need to absorb the Nushi’s strength to stand a chance against the Beast of Reincarnation.
A One-Person, One-Dog Action RPG
Beast of Reincarnation is a “one-person, one-dog action RPG.”
The game combines two different ways to play. You control Emma, who battles with quick katana attacks, and Koo, who helps by using powerful abilities through a command system – think of it like a turn-based RPG.
This game isn’t just about fast reflexes. When you successfully block enemy attacks with Emma, you gain points to power up Koo’s special skills.
You can always access Koo’s command menu, which lets you use a variety of helpful abilities in battle. When you’re in a tough spot, Koo has your back. The menu slows down combat, giving you time to analyze the situation and plan your next move.
We really focused on the pacing of the game. Instead of demanding quick reactions under pressure, we aimed to give players opportunities to slow down, strategize, and approach combat like a turn-based RPG.
The game offers three difficulty levels to suit different players. You can choose from Normal Mode, a tough Hard Mode, and Story Mode. Story Mode is designed to be more accessible, with easier parry timing and less damage from enemies.
You can make battles even more interesting by equipping Spirit Stones, which give you different advantages depending on how you fight. As you explore, you’ll also discover new katanas for Emma and Charms for Koo, each with its own special bonus. Using these items together lets you create a combat style that’s truly your own.
A Story Where Everyone Has a Big Secret
I’m really getting invested in Emma and Koo – they’re both dealing with some seriously weighty secrets! As they play through the game, they meet people who seem to want to help, but it turns out everyone has their own hidden past. It’s so cool how all these secrets connect and make the story so much richer and more complex. It’s not just about Emma and Koo, it’s about a whole web of mysteries!
We have a lot more to share, but there’s one crucial rule everyone needs to know about this world: never look up at the sky. Old stories say there’s something floating up there, and we strongly advise you not to try and see it. It’s for your own safety.
