At the moment, Neil Young, who’s headlining at Glastonbury, isn’t featured in the BBC’s official broadcast of the weekend events.
This coming Saturday, the 79-year-old musician and his group, Chrome Hearts, will be performing in the last time slot on the Pyramid Stage – one of the three most significant performances over the entire weekend.
However, it appears that the BBC’s detailed coverage plans, which include continuous channels, live set streams, recap programs, and on-stage coverage, do not seem to feature Young in their lineup.
Instead, on Friday and Sunday, The 1975 and Olivia Rodrigo each have their own dedicated slots on BBC One as they perform. On Saturday evening, starting at 10:30pm, Charli XCX takes over BBC One’s headlining spot on the Other Stage.
What’s the reason behind the absence of Neil Young’s Glastonbury 2025 performance from the BBC’s broadcast? Let’s delve into the details as they become available.
Will Neil Young’s Glastonbury set be broadcast by the BBC?

Currently, it seems that Young’s performance isn’t slated to be a part of the 90+ hours of broadcasting that the BBC has scheduled at this point in time.
However, all hope is not lost.
Previously, the broadcaster shared with NME that their goal is to showcase a multitude of performances from the Pyramid Stage. Their plans and scheduling are still being refined, all the way up until and even during the festival itself.
However, BBC Breakfast’s entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson suggested that it will not air.
During a broadcast on the 25th of June, he inquired, “What’s happening?” from Emily Eavis. She responded that she is uncertain if Neil Young’s performance will be aired by the BBC.
As it is right now, there won’t be a broadcast of Neil Young’s headlining performance on Saturday night by the BBC, despite various discussions and deal-making happening behind the scenes.
RadioTimes has reached out to the BBC and Neil Young’s reps for comment.
Why is Neil Young missing from the BBC’s Glastonbury coverage?

It remains unclear at this point, as there hasn’t been any formal explanation given for Neil Young’s absence from the initial BBC coverage of the Glastonbury event.
The absence of Young from the BBC schedule follows last year’s perplexing incident when the artist behind Cinnamon Girl left fans baffled by announcing his withdrawal from Glastonbury, but then retracted this statement just days before the event.
Neil Young himself pointed out in a post on his Neil Young Archives that their choice to cancel the festival was due, in part, to their partnership with the BBC.
He penned that Glastonbury appeared to be under corporate management, and it wasn’t as I recall it.
I’m grateful you visited us last time! Unfortunately, we won’t be performing at Glastonbury during this tour. It has become more commercialized than I prefer, and it doesn’t resonate with me as it once did.
Three days after the initial announcement, Young admitted that he made the statement based on incorrect information he had received, which led to the Chrome Hearts ultimately performing.
Starting at 10 PM, the band is scheduled to perform on the Pyramid Stage, taking over after Raye and enigmatic group “Patchwork”.
