Savannah Guthrie’s Mom Missing: Authorities Share Full Timeline

More details have come to light in the search for Nancy Guthrie.

The investigation into the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother is ongoing. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed the sequence of events leading up to Nancy’s missing person report. Authorities were able to piece together the timeline by examining electronic devices found at Nancy’s home in Tucson, Arizona.

According to statements made to reporters on February 5th, Nancy visited her family’s home for dinner and games around 5:32 p.m. on January 31st. She was dropped off at home around 9:48 p.m., which aligns with what her family reported, and is confirmed by a garage door opening at that time.

He went on to say that the garage door closes at 9:50 p.m., leading them to believe Nancy is home and likely getting ready for bed. Then, early Sunday morning at 1:47 a.m., the doorbell camera stops working.

The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t pay for a subscription. However, Nancy is still working to try and recover the recording.

According to the sheriff, Nancy’s pacemaker app lost connection with her phone at 2:28 a.m. The family found her missing around 11:56 a.m., and 911 was called to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department just three minutes later, at 12:03 p.m.

Our patrol teams arrived about ten to twelve minutes later and immediately began responding. This included deploying search-and-rescue teams and detectives to investigate.

Nanos explained that Nancy took an Uber to her family’s house, but a family member drove her home. He also discussed the delay in getting security footage from the house, which is now considered a crime scene.

The samples need to be sent to various labs for testing, and occasionally, we receive results that raise questions for us, just like you might have.

Police are continuing the search for Nancy, who hasn’t been seen since Saturday night around 9:30 p.m., and are now working with the FBI to investigate possible clues.

We’re actively following up on several promising leads right now. Each and every one is being carefully investigated.

With the search for Nancy Guthrie still underway, here’s a more detailed look at what we know about the case.

Police are looking for an 84-year-old woman last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31st around 9:30 p.m. She is the mother of Annie Guthrie, Camron Guthrie, and Savannah.

Police confirmed to Today that Nancy, age 84, was reported missing by her family on February 1st. A friend became worried when Nancy didn’t attend church that morning and alerted her family. After searching her property for about an hour, her children contacted authorities around noon to report her missing.

I remember Sheriff Chris Nanos explaining how the investigation started, with homicide detectives going to the victim’s home right away. He walked us through the very first steps they took.

We don’t usually involve the sheriff in situations like this, but the details coming out of the house are very troubling,” he said at a press conference on February 2nd. “This case was particularly unusual based on what officers described and what we discovered at the scene.

This isn’t how we usually handle things,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide team is called out when there’s a death, a body to investigate. In this case, we sent them based solely on the information the surveyors provided.”

After looking into what happened, officials stated they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.

During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators now believe they have identified a crime scene after processing the location. He asked for the public’s assistance, noting the community has historically been helpful in solving difficult cases and he hopes they will come forward again.

The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had trouble getting around – she couldn’t walk even a short distance on her own – which led him to suspect something wasn’t right with her disappearance.

He stated, “We’re certain she didn’t simply leave on her own. Evidence at the location suggests she didn’t leave voluntarily.”

The search for Nancy is ongoing, and officials are concerned because she needs daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.

During the February 2nd press conference, Nanos explained that the patient is an 84-year-old woman with health problems who urgently needs medication. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.

We’re asking anyone with information about this – if you’ve seen or heard anything, please get in touch. Call 911. We want to avoid another tragedy and really need the public’s help.

Okay, so everyone’s been worried about Nancy’s health, and yeah, it’s true she hasn’t been doing great physically for a while now. But honestly? It’s amazing to see! Dr. Nanos keeps saying her mind is so sharp. Like, she might be tired, but she’s still incredibly quick and aware – it’s truly inspiring, and it makes me so happy to know she’s still her.

According to Dr. Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally alert and this isn’t related to dementia. She’s still very sharp. Her family wants everyone to understand she didn’t simply wander away, and any physical limitations are simply due to her age.

With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his hope that she will be found safe.

“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how difficult this time is for her family.

As a close friend of the family, I can share that they’ve expressed their deep gratitude for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and supportive messages everyone has sent. Their main priority right now, and it’s all they’re focused on, is bringing Nancy home safely.

She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the investigation and asked anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Once Savannah confirmed her mother, Nancy, had been reported missing, her colleagues on the Today show publicly expressed their support.

Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she’s personally close to Nancy and feels very fondly towards her.

She continued, saying they were deeply thinking of Savannah and her family, and sending their prayers to everyone affected.

Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.

It really struck me – seeing the show ask everyone to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, even with the tiniest bit of information, that’s when I felt our community truly came together. It was amazing to witness, and it showed how powerful we can be when we all pitch in.

She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”

Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.

On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the phone number for the authorities.

Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, responded to the surprising announcement by posting a heartwarming photo of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a simple message on Instagram from February 2nd, Hoda shared a red heart and praying hands emoji.

Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be worried.

Pima County Sheriff Nanos said at a press conference on February 2nd that he doesn’t believe there’s a current danger, but emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and much work remains.

Savannah hasn’t appeared on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local authorities have been checking in with her to ensure she’s okay.

The sheriff confirmed they had spoken with her. She has a security team that has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.

As a concerned follower of this case, I’ve been following the updates closely. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, investigators now think she was taken from her home against her will, likely sometime during the night. They’ve been looking into the possibility of a kidnapping or abduction since February 2nd, and it’s incredibly worrying.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.

In a recent Instagram post on February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing, “We find strength in prayer, in coming together with love and hope, and in believing in the goodness of people and in humanity itself. Most importantly, we have faith in God.”

Savannah continued, expressing gratitude for everyone’s prayers for her mother, Nancy, whom she described as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person. She asked for continued prayers, believing they would offer comfort and strength to Nancy right now.

She added, “we need you.”

To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.

She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, ‘He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.’ She believed this message held timeless wisdom for everyone.

Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s house, which is now being treated as a crime scene.

We collected samples and are hopeful they contain enough DNA to help us identify what we’re searching for, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.
