A recent report suggests that Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally coming to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Despite Rockstar Games already working on Grand Theft Auto VI, which is expected in 2026, fans have continued to ask for an updated version of RDR2. It appears those requests may be answered soon, with a new release potentially arriving in the coming months.
Industry insider NatetheHate reports that versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are currently expected to launch in 2026. While details are scarce, this suggests Rockstar Games is planning two major releases this year. These updated versions of RDR2 would likely come out before Grand Theft Auto VI in November, so we might get an official announcement from Rockstar soon.
As far as I know, RDR2 is this year.

A major question for those hoping for improvements to Red Dead Redemption 2 on next-generation consoles is whether those upgrades will be free or cost money. Considering Rockstar’s past practices, a paid upgrade seems more probable. They rarely offer free upgrades for their games, as seen with Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar released updated versions of GTA V for new consoles twice, and each time, players had to purchase the new edition instead of simply upgrading their existing game.
A New Version of RDR2 Is Very Much Needed

Even though Red Dead Redemption 2 is an amazing game already, it would be even better on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It was released towards the end of the last console generation, so while it still looks good, the hardware held it back a little. Bringing it to newer consoles would allow Rockstar to significantly improve the graphics and how smoothly the game runs, cementing its status as one of the most visually stunning games of all time.
I’ve been waiting to replay Red Dead Redemption 2 until this updated version comes out. If a lot of other players are also holding off, Rockstar could see a big boost in sales if the game is released this year.
