5 Games We Have to See at PlayStation’s February State of Play

As a PlayStation fan, I’m so hyped that Sony just announced the first State of Play for 2026! It feels like they’ve got a really strong year planned, and this showcase is going to be amazing. They’re keeping everything under wraps for now, which just fuels all the speculation and wishful thinking. Everyone’s buzzing about what games they’ll finally show off, and we’re all hoping to get some official news on titles that are currently in development.

Sony has a huge collection of games, and while we anticipate seeing certain titles at February’s State of Play, some are absolutely essential. We’ve already seen a detailed look at Saros in a previous presentation, so it’s likely Sony won’t show much more of it beyond a brief trailer. However, there are five games that must be featured, and we’re expecting them to appear.

5) Fairgame$

Fairgame$ has faced a difficult development process, with repeated delays and changes in direction. While it’s a shooter game, Sony and the developers, Haven Studios, are trying to make it unique by focusing on a heist concept. The core gameplay involves teams competing to steal valuable items, then protecting their own loot from other players. Details about the actual gameplay are scarce, but this is mainly because of the game’s ongoing development problems, not a lack of communication.

Initial testing of the game has received negative feedback, with players describing it as awkward and unenjoyable. This has left the game’s future uncertain, and development seems stalled. If Sony wants to save Fairgame$, they need to show players it’s still in progress. Releasing a gameplay trailer or announcing a beta test during the next State of Play event would help rebuild excitement and trust in the project.

4) Marathon

With Bungie’s new game, Marathon, launching on March 5th, it’s no surprise we’re hearing about it now. The positive reception to Arc Raiders proved there’s interest in this type of shooter, and people will naturally compare the two games. Sony has been actively working to improve the public’s perception of Marathon, and it seems to be working. The best way to build excitement now would be to release a trailer announcing an open beta, letting players try the game before they buy it for $40.

Marathon is a shooter similar to games like Arc Raiders and Escape From Tarkov, but it’s unique thanks to its ‘Runner Shells’ system. This allows players to use special abilities, like in hero shooters, while still maintaining freedom in how they approach gameplay. The game also benefits from Bungie’s experience in creating compelling shooter mechanics and stories. Marathon has the potential to be a fantastic shooter, but it faces challenges due to recent controversies. To ensure its success, Sony and Bungie should use the upcoming State of Play event to give the game a strong final boost before launch.

3) Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

Since its launch and beta testing, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has been well-received, and many believe it could be the best Marvel fighting game yet. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced – only a 2026 timeframe – the upcoming February State of Play event would be an ideal time to share that information with fans. Being the first State of Play of the year, announcing the release date for this popular franchise would generate a lot of excitement. It would also be a great opportunity for Sony to reveal the release date for their new FlexStrike fight stick.

As a huge fighting game fan, I was so excited to see the Steam page update for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls! They’ve said it’ll launch with 20 characters, and we already know eight of them. I’m really hoping the upcoming State of Play will finally give us a release date, but even more, I’m dying to see some new character reveals! That’s been the biggest buzz around the game, and Sony would be smart to show off at least one, maybe even two, playable characters. Marvel is massive, and even though fighting games aren’t for everyone, this game has the potential to be huge – they just need to show people what it can do!

2) Marvel’s Wolverine

Insomniac Games, the studio behind popular titles like Ratchet & Clank and the recent Spider-Man games, recently announced they’re working on a Wolverine game, and fans are thrilled! We’ve already gotten a first look at the actor playing Wolverine, some gameplay footage, and a hint of the story. With the game still a few years away – planned for release in 2026 – this presentation was a great opportunity to show more. Players are excited to find out which other mutants and Marvel characters will be included, and some confirmations have already been made.

Sony is expected to soon release a longer gameplay trailer for the upcoming Wolverine game, potentially showing developers playing through a level. Unlike the open-world Spider-Man games, Wolverine will have a more focused, linear design. This change will help Insomniac create a more impactful story, which they believe is a better fit for Wolverine’s character and backstory. Fans have been eager to see Wolverine star in his own video game for a long time, and early signs suggest Wolverine could be one of PlayStation’s biggest hits.

1) God of War

Fans are hoping to hear about the future of God of War at February’s State of Play. It’s been quiet since the release of God of War: Ragnarok and its free Valhalla DLC, and the 20th-anniversary celebration didn’t satisfy many players. With God of War: Ragnarok launching in 2022, excitement for what comes next is high, but Sony and Santa Monica Studio haven’t shared any updates or hints.

All the recent updates about God of War have focused on the upcoming TV series and its cast. While fans are looking forward to the show, they’re really eager for news about the next video game. With the 20th anniversary recently passing and leaving fans wanting more, Sony should share something soon. The next State of Play presentation would be a great opportunity to show even a short teaser trailer, just to confirm a new God of War game is in development and give players a small preview of what’s next for Kratos and Atreus.
