Nicole Richie Reacts as Daughter Unveils Tattoo Tribute

Nicole Richie is simply showing her daughter some love.

On February 9th, Kate, 18, shared photos on Instagram revealing her new tattoo: a pair of angel wings between her shoulder blades. She showed off the ink while wearing a gold dress with an open back. The tattoo seems to be a tribute to her mother, Nicole, who has a similar angel wing tattoo on her upper back.

As for how Nicole reacted? She commented three heart emojis.

Kate recently changed her appearance after sharing that her daughter, along with her 16-year-old son Sparrow Madden, doesn’t use the name she was originally given at birth. Kate and Joel Madden are the parents of both children.

Nicole shared a heartfelt Instagram post on January 12th celebrating 18 years with Kate Maddennn, including adorable old photos. Joel chimed in with a loving comment, simply writing, “That’s my girl.”

But according to the House of Harlow 1960 founder, that’s the name Kate always favored.

Nicole shared in an interview with People magazine on January 15th that the person prefers to be called by her middle name and is living a full life.

Though fans were surprised to learn of the teen’s preferred name, it’s nothing new for Nicole.

“I didn’t look,” Nicole said of the online reaction to her post, “but it makes sense.”

Nicole didn’t say why Kate goes by her middle name rather than her first, but the couple did previously explain how they chose her complete name.

After her child was born in 2008, Nicole explained to People magazine that she and her partner disagreed on a name. She wanted something with a bohemian, ‘hippie’ feel, while he preferred a name with biblical origins.

Grimes explained on Twitter that ‘X’ represents an unknown variable. ‘Æ’ is her elven-inspired way of spelling ‘AI,’ which stands for either love or artificial intelligence. ‘A-12’ refers to an aircraft that came before their favorite, the SR-17. She emphasized that it’s built for speed, not combat – it’s powerful but non-violent.
