7 Most Powerful Heroes DC Forgot About

DC Comics has a huge roster of heroes – hundreds, really! From iconic figures like Wonder Woman and Superman to lesser-known favorites like Ragman and Animal Man, there’s no lack of characters ready to be the hero of the story. Unfortunately, with limited space in comics, not everyone can have their own series or major storyline. DC understandably focuses on characters who are popular or have the potential to be, which often leaves many others sidelined and eventually forgotten. It’s a shame, and something that needs to be addressed.

Let’s explore seven DC heroes who haven’t just been sidelined, but completely forgotten. These powerful characters have barely appeared in the last ten years – a surprising oversight given their potential. Since so many heroes fall into obscurity, we’re focusing on seven of the most powerful ones DC has seemingly written off. These characters are incredibly strong, capable of universe-altering feats if given the opportunity. Let’s take a moment to remember them.

7) Damage

DC’s attempt to launch new heroes with the ‘New Age of Heroes’ line didn’t quite succeed, often feeling like copies of popular Marvel characters. One example was Damage, DC’s version of the Hulk. Ethan Avery initially wanted to be a hero, but a government experiment turned him into Damage – a powerful, destructive monster. Damage is incredibly strong, able to fight Wonder Woman for an entire hour, and she even said he hit harder than Superman! However, Ethan can only maintain his Damage form for one hour daily, and he struggles to control the angrier personality that comes with it. Being able to trade blows with Wonder Woman definitely makes him a formidable force.

6) Ibis the Invincible

Ibis was a strong magic-user first created for Fawcett Comics and later featured in DC stories. He often appeared in early adventures with Shazam, showcasing his incredible magical abilities. Ibis gained his powers from the Ibistick, a special staff given to him by the Egyptian god Thoth. This staff could perform almost any kind of magic, as long as it was used to help others. It once put Ibis and his wife, Taia, into a sleep-like state for four thousand years, and even created shields that could protect entire cities. Though a skilled magician, Ibis eventually retired and passed his powers on to Daniel Khalifa, who has since been largely forgotten.

5) Jemm, Son of Saturn

Many years ago, Martians settled the moons of Saturn, creating clones to farm the land. Over time, these clones developed into a new branch of the Martian race, led by Jemm. Jemm is incredibly powerful – he possesses all the same abilities as Martian Manhunter, and is his equal in strength and intelligence. The two share a close, brotherly relationship, and it would be great to see more of their connection, especially since Martian Manhunter is often overlooked.

4) Tim Hunter

Tim Hunter is DC Comics’ take on a magical boy like Harry Potter, and many fans find him even more engaging. This young British boy is predicted to master the Books of Magic – a collection of spells and magical knowledge from across the universe that only he can decipher. Tim is fated to become the most powerful magician ever, and because of this, people either want to control him or keep him safe. He’s already demonstrated incredible magical ability, even though he’s still developing his powers. While he needs a wand to perform magic, Tim is a fascinating character with the potential to become an incredibly powerful force.

3) Triumph

As a fan, it really bugs me that Triumph is so overlooked! It’s not just that people forgot about him – it’s built into his whole story. He was one of the very first members of the Justice League, but he made this huge sacrifice, jumping into a time rift, which basically erased him from existence. Then, thanks to weird time stuff, he came back! He was originally the League’s powerhouse, and honestly, he’s like Magneto, but even stronger, controlling not just magnetism but gravity and all kinds of energy. He can even mess with people’s minds by controlling the electricity in their brains! It’s wild how powerful he is, but the really sad part is that DC’s writers apparently disliked him so much they killed him off again and he’s been forgotten ever since. It’s a shame, because he deserves better!

2) Zauriel

Zauriel was a Justice League member during Grant Morrison’s famous run on the comic. He was initially intended to be a reimagining of Hawkman, but editors decided against it due to Hawkman’s complicated backstory. Though Hawkman is quite strong, Zauriel is even more powerful. As a guardian angel and one of the four generals of Heaven, he’s among the most powerful beings in the DC Universe. While not as strong as the Spectre, Zauriel is immortal and physically superior to any human. He also possesses Archangel Michael’s sword, capable of slicing through dimensions, and his sonic scream has even been shown to harm the Spectre – a clear demonstration of his incredible power.

1) Takion

Takion is surprisingly obscure, which is remarkable given his potential. He was chosen to replace Highfather of the New Gods and gained a direct link to the Source, granting him nearly unlimited power. He was incredibly powerful, able to control all kinds of forces – even things like emotions, Captain Atom’s energy, and the Speed Force. In fact, he could do almost anything, and sometimes even accidentally caused huge events, like wiping out an entire town with just a thought. Takion is arguably one of DC’s most powerful characters, yet he remains largely unknown.

Here are seven incredibly strong heroes that, surprisingly, never really caught on with readers. Which of these lesser-known characters is your favorite? Let us know in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
