Fans of Dragon Ball Super received exciting news at the start of 2026: the series will return after an eight-year break to animate the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. The announcement came during the Genki Dama Matsuri, a celebration honoring the manga’s 40th anniversary. The anime concluded its Tournament of Power arc in 2018, and while fans waited for the story to continue, Akira Toriyama created a brand new story, Dragon Ball Daima, which debuted in 2024. Sadly, Daima turned out to be Toriyama’s final project and was released after his passing.
Fans loved Daima for its thrilling story and bringing back the Super Saiyan 3 and 4 transformations. Interestingly, before the show even started, Toei Animation received a lot of criticism for its weak marketing efforts. Despite this, Daima became a big hit, and it’s a shame the studio didn’t prioritize promotion more. Now, they seem to be learning from this with Dragon Ball Super, actively promoting its return through an upcoming pop-up event. A first look was shared on X by the popular Dragon Ball fan account, @DokkanAssets.
What to Expect From Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol

Following the Tournament of Power, where Goku and his friends saved the universe, a new threat emerges. This storyline, known as the Moro Arc, centers on Goku and Vegeta teaming up with the Galactic Patrol to stop Moro, a powerful, ancient wizard who devours planets. Moro proves to be one of their toughest opponents yet, pushing Goku and Vegeta to reach new levels of strength to defeat and re-imprison him.
The story is relatively short, with only about 26 chapters, so the anime adaptation will likely be a brief season. While there’s no official release date yet, it’s probably coming next year. Given the recent announcement and the anime’s focus on the Dragon Ball Super: Beerus remake, it’s unlikely that Galactic Patrol will share significant details before the first half of 2026.
Are There Any Updates on The Dragon Ball Super Manga?

2026 is shaping up to be a great year for Dragon Ball fans! It started with a major event, and in April, we can expect even more exciting news during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour on April 18th and 19th. However, despite all the updates, there’s still no word on when the Dragon Ball manga will return, as it’s been on break for two years.
Toyotaro released a one-off chapter in February 2025, but the main manga series is still paused. Because it’s only on break and hasn’t been cancelled, fans are hopeful it will continue. However, Toyotaro’s return will likely be delayed, as he’s now taking over the story from Toriyama and has a lot to live up to.
