Joe Keery Responds To MCU Spider-Man Rumors As He Says Goodbye To Stranger Things

Joe Keery knows about the rumors linking him to the Marvel Cinematic Universe just like his fans do, as he recently discussed the possibility of joining the franchise.

Joe Keery quickly became well-known for playing Steve in the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, which concluded with its final season in December 2025. He’s also been building a successful career outside of the show, appearing in the comedy Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds, the horror film Spree, and as an important character in the fifth season of Fargo.

For a while, there’s been talk that Joe Keery has been in discussions with Marvel Studios about a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, while promoting his new horror comedy, Cold Storage, he’s addressed those rumors. Keery jokingly mentioned being aware of Spider-Man and having seen fan-made TikTok videos of him as Harry Osborn, saying he enjoys the idea of potentially playing Peter Parker’s longtime friend from the comics.

The actor, known for their work on Stranger Things, also explained that everything unfolds when it’s meant to. Ultimately, they believe there’s a limit to how much planning an actor can do, whether they’re pursuing smaller, independent projects or something as large as a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Joe Keery says he mostly relies on staying aware, doing a lot of reading, and hoping for good opportunities. He then enthusiastically asks to see the script and get started.

Rumors started in January about Joe Keery possibly joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with reports he was being considered for a role. Since then, fans have speculated about which character he could play. Harry Osborn is the most popular suggestion, but others have proposed roles like Cyclops in the upcoming X-Men reboot, Nova for a planned Disney+ series, or even Ghost Rider.

So far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ve only seen Norman Osborn, played by Willem Dafoe, in No Way Home. This makes it plausible that the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be setting the stage for Harry Osborn to appear. Interestingly, this would be the second time a Stranger Things actor has joined the Spider-Man universe, as Sadie Sink is set to play a significant, currently unrevealed character in Brand New Day.

With the upcoming 2026 film potentially launching a new trilogy for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Joe Keery might make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before then. He could appear as Harry Osborn in a movie other than a Spider-Man film – similar to how Holland was first introduced in Captain America: Civil War before getting his own solo movie – or even as a completely different character. The possibilities are wide open for where he might show up.

Whether Joseph Keery joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe will depend on two things: his willingness to take on a role, and Marvel Studios’ plans for the future. The studio is currently working to improve its recent financial performance and wrap up the Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Secret Wars. Since Secret Wars is expected to be a fresh start for the MCU in 2027, Keery could have more potential roles available than people are currently guessing.
