Sung Jinwoo Fights Cthulhu in Upcoming Solo Leveling Release

Throughout his incredible development in Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo battled and defeated powerful, god-like beings. He eventually surpassed even the strongest entities in his universe, becoming a god-like figure himself. However, the upcoming continuation of the story will introduce a new villain representing truly terrifying cosmic forces.

The game Solo Leveling: Arise recently showed off a trailer and gameplay footage for its upcoming adaptation of the Japan Crisis Arc. This arc, planned for Solo Leveling Season 3, features Jinwoo’s first battle with a powerful Monarch. The biggest surprise was seeing Jinwoo fight a completely new villain – one that fans of horror will instantly recognize as Cthulhu, despite never appearing in the original manhwa or anime.

Solo Leveling Pits Sung Jinwoo Against Cthulhu in New Upcoming Release

A recent livestream for the game Solo Leveling: Arise showed off the new “Retaking Downtown” update, featuring Sung Jinwoo battling a massive boss monster with terrifying tentacles sprouting from its face. Though this creature hasn’t appeared in the original manhwa or anime, viewers quickly noticed its resemblance to Cthulhu, a fact the developers later confirmed.

The latest major villain in Solo Leveling: Arise is Cthulhu, a powerful cosmic being known for driving people insane just by appearing. It’s unknown exactly how strong Cthulhu will be in the game, but based on the original stories, he’s likely to be one of the toughest enemies Jinwoo has ever encountered.

In “The Call of Cthulhu,” the narrator struggles to describe the creature Cthulhu because it’s completely outside the realm of human comprehension. He states that it’s simply indescribable, as no words exist to capture something so alien, terrifying, and fundamentally opposed to everything we understand about the universe.

In the stories of H.P. Lovecraft, Cthulhu is one of the “Great Old Ones” – immensely powerful beings who barely notice humanity. The truly frightening thing about these creatures isn’t that they’re evil, but that humans are insignificant to them, like ants that could be crushed without a second thought.

Sung Jinwoo has faced strong enemies before, but those battles happened later in the story. He eventually fights the Itarim – incredibly powerful gods who casually create and destroy universes. Notably, the being who created Jinwoo’s universe, the Absolute Being, was among them.

Despite happening early in the story—before Jinwoo has reached his full potential as the Shadow Monarch—his performance in the Japan Crisis Arc of Solo Leveling: Arise is remarkable. Fans are already suggesting this version of Jinwoo is the most powerful one yet, and his fight against Cthulhu at this stage seems to prove them right.

Cthulhu May Be Sung Jinwoo’s Biggest Enemy Yet — Literally

What really stands out about the portrayal of Cthulhu in Solo Leveling: Arise isn’t just how powerful he is, but how incredibly massive he is. He’s a truly gigantic creature – so large that his entire body doesn’t fit within the frame. His head is many times bigger than Jinwoo, and his hand is so huge that when he strikes the battle platform, there’s no way to dodge it.

During the live stream, the developers hinted that Cthulhu might be the game’s most powerful boss, and everything suggests that’s true. Ignoring questions about how strong he is compared to other bosses, it makes sense for such a massive creature to appear during the Japan Crisis Arc, where Jinwoo battles a huge number of giants led by the King of Giants. However, Cthulhu stands out even among these giants just based on how he looks.

The giant enemies led by Legia generally look more like humans, though some wear bone masks and even have horns. Unlike in the original webcomic, they don’t have tentacles growing out of their faces. The new adaptation, Solo Leveling: Arise, closely follows the main story arcs, like the Japan Crisis Arc. This suggests that the appearance of Cthulhu might be added as extra content, perhaps after the main battle or as part of a quest that hasn’t been revealed yet.

I’m absolutely blown away by how strong Sung Jinwoo has become in Solo Leveling! This new enemy, Cthulhu, just proves what fans like me already suspected: Jinwoo is easily one of the most powerful heroes in anime right now. What’s so great about this series is how far it pushes his abilities – there seem to be no limits! And defeating Cthulhu, a monster so legendary it basically invented a type of horror, is just the latest incredible thing he’s done. It’s amazing to see how powerful he’s become!

The Japan Crisis Arc of Solo Leveling: Arise (known as “Retaking Downtown” in the game), featuring the new Cthulhu boss, will be released after a game update on Thursday, February 12th.
