A new Channel 4 drama featuring Glenn Close has announced several more well-known actors will be joining the production.
The upcoming drama, Up to No Good, features Glenda Close as Maud Oldcastle, a funny, grumpy, and determined older woman. Maud has dedicated her life to looking after her sister, Charlotte, played by Penelope Wilton.
Becoming more and more upset with her circumstances, Maud takes drastic measures to escape and finally start a new chapter in her life.
I’m really intrigued by the new movie! The story follows Maud, and it sounds like things aren’t what they seem. A detective starts looking into a death in her building and begins to suspect Maud is hiding something – a lot, actually. It seems she’ll be forced to face up to everything she’s done, both recently and way back in her past. It’s setting up to be a real thriller!
Channel 4 revealed today that Wilton, known for his roles in After Life and Downton Abbey, will play Maud’s sister in the new series. Claudia Jessie, who recently appeared in Bridgerton and Toxic Town, will star as the detective investigating the case.

The cast also includes some well-known faces, such as Anita Dobson, famous for her roles in EastEnders and Doctor Who, alongside Gloria Obianyo (known for Andor), Ben Crompton (from Game of Thrones), and Meera Syal (The Revenge Club).
Channel 4’s Drama Commissioning Editor, Rebecca Holdsworth, shared her enthusiasm for the new series, praising the compelling world created by Nina and Moses Raine. She believes audiences will be captivated by Maud Oldcastle and the memorable characters around her.
Up to No Good is a daring, clever, and thoroughly enjoyable series that perfectly captures the spirit of Channel 4.
I’m a big fan of Nina and Moses Raine – they’re a brother and sister duo who write amazing plays! Nina wrote the really powerful drama Consent back in 2018, and Moses is hilarious – he wrote the comedy Donkey Heart a few years earlier, in 2014.

The Raines brothers wrote the screenplay for ‘Up to No Good,’ which was based on two collections of short stories by Helene Tursten: ‘An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good’ and ‘An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed’.
I’m so excited about this new six-part drama! It’s being directed by Lee Haven Jones, who I really loved for his work on ITV’s ‘A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story’ – that series was incredibly moving. They’re filming it in London right now, which is awesome!
Andrew Plotkin from Sony Pictures Television expressed excitement about Lee Haven Jones directing the series, highlighting his ability to establish the right atmosphere and actively participate in all aspects of production.
Glenn is working with a fantastic cast to make Nina and Moses’ excellent scripts truly shine in ‘Up to No Good’. The result is shaping up to be something special, and viewers are in for a treat.
Up to No Good is coming soon to Channel 4.
