One of Disney’s Most Popular Animated Series Is Crossing Over With the Fantastic Four

Some beloved franchises under Disney’s wing include the Fantastic Four, initially conceived by Marvel Comics. In theaters soon is the first live-action Fantastic Four film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Excitement for the FF has never been greater, with Marvel releasing various projects in sync with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” such as a reboot of the Fantastic Four comic series. An intriguing twist that might have flown under fans’ radars is an unforeseen collaboration between this Disney property and another successful animated series from within the company.

In October, an extraordinary one-off comic titled “Fantastic Four & Gargoyles” will hit stands. This unique issue marks the first time these two iconic franchises, the 1990s Disney cartoon “Gargoyles” and Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four, have crossed paths. The comic is penned by the creator of “Gargoyles”, Greg Weisman, with art by Enid Balám. Although there isn’t a new animated series for Gargoyles, their tales live on in comic books published by Dynamite Entertainment. In October, Dynamite will also release a separate one-shot titled “Gargoyles & Fantastic Four“, which shares the same continuity as Marvel’s upcoming one-shot.

In both series, Marvel’s esteemed superhero group will join forces with Goliath, Elisa Maza, Brooklyn, and the entire crew to confront villains hailing from the universes of both teams.

In both stories, Marvel’s iconic superhero clan unites with Goliath, Elisa Maza, Brooklyn, and their friends to battle baddies originating from the realms of both groups.

Or, if you prefer a more casual tone:
Both sagas feature Marvel’s famous superhero squad teaming up with Goliath, Elisa Maza, Brooklyn, and the crew against bad guys from the villain squads of both universes.

Weisman expressed his enthusiasm for integrating Gargoyles with the Fantastic Four‘s Baxter Building, explaining, “It just seems fitting that the Primary Family of the Marvel Universe connects with the Primary Family of the Gargoyles Universe, specifically the Manhattan Clan. These two groups of heroes, both based in Midtown Manhattan – one from the Baxter Building and one from the Eyrie Building – share a lot of similarities. In fact, Stan & Jack’s Fantastic Four served as a significant inspiration for the creation of Gargoyles in the early ’90s. Working on this project has rekindled my inner child’s joy. It’s going to be a blast!

It’s not uncommon for fans to witness two big comic book franchises merge together. For instance, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have shared their world with Power Rangers and Batman on multiple occasions. Similarly, Godzilla and Kong have wreaked havoc in both Marvel and DC Universe stories. In a fresh take on the crossover genre, Fantastic Four and Gargoyles are set to collide, and it promises to be exciting to observe how the Gargoyles interact with Marvel characters.
