Lindsey Vonn is going for the gold when it comes to her healing.
Following a crash during the downhill race at the 2026 Olympics that resulted in a broken leg, the skier provided an update from the hospital a few days later.
Lindsey shared on Instagram on February 11th that her third surgery went well. She posted photos from her hospital bed and explained that ‘success’ feels different now than it did recently. While her recovery is slow, she’s optimistic about making a full recovery.
The 41-year-old expressed gratitude to the amazing doctors and nurses, as well as to their friends, family, and everyone around the world who sent love and support.
Although her experience at the Milano Cortina Olympics wasn’t the result she wanted, she was quick to congratulate her Team USA teammates, saying they inspire her and give her a reason to celebrate.
Lindsey recently shared an update just three days after a crash during the women’s downhill final on February 8th. She was airlifted from the mountain in Cortina, and she confirmed that the crash ended her chances of competing in the Olympics.
Lindsey explained in a February 9th post that she’d pursued her dreams relentlessly, knowing that in downhill skiing, the margin between success and serious injury could be just a few inches. She emphasized the fine line between a smart approach and a devastating accident in the sport.
Even though she retired in 2019 due to multiple ACL injuries, the 2010 Olympic gold medalist said she didn’t regret trying to make a comeback, even though it was brief.

Yesterday, being at the starting line was honestly one of the most amazing moments of my life – something I’ll cherish forever. Even just being a contender felt like a win. Of course, I’m realistic – racing always carries risks. It’s an incredibly dangerous sport, and that’s always been true, and always will be.
Lindsey, who tore her ACL right before the Winter Olympics, shared a powerful message: “The only true failure is not even trying.” She hopes people will be inspired by her experience to be brave and take risks.
