PlayStation Store Brings Back Handy Feature Missing Since the PS4

The PlayStation Store has reintroduced a useful feature that was lost after the PlayStation 4 era. When the PS5 launched in 2020, Sony updated the store’s design, and unfortunately, some of these changes removed functionality. This is a common problem – often, well-developed designs are overhauled with new ones, essentially starting the process all over. The PlayStation Store has seen several redesigns over time, but this is the first significant update since the PS5’s release.

The PlayStation Store on the web recently went through a redesign that removed trailers and images from game listings. Before this change, you could easily watch trailers and see screenshots directly on the store’s website to learn about games. A recent update has brought some of this functionality back, allowing you to view media again.

Sony Undoes Removal

If you liked watching game trailers directly on the PlayStation Store in your web browser, you’ll be disappointed to hear that feature isn’t returning with this update. While game images are now available, giving you a better look at what each game offers, you’ll still need to visit YouTube in a separate tab if you want to watch trailers.

It’s unclear why Sony takes features away from the PlayStation Store only to bring them back years later, but it’s a recurring pattern. They often redesign the store, remove existing features, and then gradually reintroduce them – a cycle that seems to happen with each new PlayStation generation.

As of today, Sony hasn’t announced any changes to the PlayStation Store or revealed plans for future updates. We’ll let you know if that changes, but generally, Sony keeps details about its online store close to the vest, and updates tend to roll out very gradually.
