New Pokemon Game Lets You Play “Who’s That Pokemon” With a Twist

For many longtime Pokémon fans, the “Who’s That Pokémon?” segment is a cherished childhood memory. This short clip played before commercials during the animated series, challenging viewers to identify Pokémon silhouettes. It’s since become a popular joke and internet trend. Now, a new board game aims to recreate that same fun by challenging players to identify and collect the very first 150 Pokémon.

Ulta PRO Entertainment, known for its tabletop games, has teamed up with Zanzoon to announce a new Pokémon trivia game. Called Pokémon Trainer Ultimate, it builds on the popularity of Pokémon Trainer Expert with a unique twist: the game quizzes you on Pokémon knowledge! Pokémon Trainer Ultimate will be available this fall, and fans can get a first look at it at the New York Toy Fair from February 14th to 17th.

Pokemon Trainer Ultimate Is a New Pokemon Guessing Game that Puts Your Pokemon Knowledge to the Test

Pokemon Trainer Ultimate is the newest game from the creators of Pokemon Trainer Trivia and Pokemon Trainer Expert. Like those games, it’s a guessing game focused on Pokemon from the Kanto region. However, this version has a twist: instead of you guessing, the game tries to guess the Pokemon based on clues you provide. It’s an electronic device with a color screen that attempts to identify the original 150 Pokemon based on your answers to its questions.

Pokemon Trainer Ultimate offers both single-player and multiplayer quiz modes where you answer questions to help the game guess a Pokemon. By correctly identifying clues for all 151 original Kanto Pokemon, you ‘collect’ them, and the game tracks your progress, letting you see which Pokemon you still need to discover. It’s a fresh take on the classic “Who’s that Pokemon?” – you’ll need solid Pokemon knowledge to find them all!

Pokemon Trainer Ultimate functions as your opponent, asking questions to help you identify the Pokemon, which allows for solo play. This latest Pokemon game from Ultra PRO Entertainment is designed for 1 to 4 players, ages 6 and up. It’s easy to use with just 3 buttons to navigate the small screen, and comes with instructions to get you started quickly. A typical round takes about 15 minutes, making it a great game for playing anywhere.

The new game, Pokemon Trainer Ultimate, will be released in stores in Fall 2026. Visitors to New York Toy Fair from February 14th to 17th will be the first to see it. The game will retail for $39.99.
