The Avengers are known as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and they’ve consistently defended the world from a huge range of dangers. They’ve faced incredibly powerful foes like Thanos, cosmic-level threats, and countless enemies created by AIM. To handle all these challenges, the Avengers need to be incredibly strong, and often, a direct, powerful attack is the most effective way to win. While many Avengers have unique powers, most of their toughest battles involve physically powerful opponents. So, we’re going to rank the ten strongest Avengers based on their physical strength.
Let’s start by clarifying what we’re looking at. We’re focusing purely on physical strength for this ranking, not powers that seem like strength, like telekinesis or reality warping. Also, we’re only including heroes who’ve been Avengers for more than just a quick appearance. While characters like the Thing and Colossus have teamed up with the Avengers, they’re best known as members of other groups. And although Beta Ray Bill could arguably take Thor’s place, he hasn’t officially been an Avenger, so we can’t include him. Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s get to the strongest heroes!
10) Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is among the physically strongest of the Eternals, and briefly joined the Avengers team in 1989 for ten issues. While all Eternals are powerful, Gilgamesh stands out even among them, capable of lifting over 100 tons. He’s shared many adventures with his friend Hercules. However, compared to others, Gilgamesh hasn’t demonstrated feats of strength that clearly place him at the very top tier, making his exact power level hard to pinpoint. This puts him in tenth place – undeniably strong, but lacking the definitive proof to rank higher.
9) She-Hulk

Jen, like her cousin, is incredibly strong, though she might not seem as intimidating. As the She-Hulk, she can become unbelievably powerful when angered. She’s gotten much stronger over time; she can now lift around 100 tons normally, and even more when she transforms into her Savage form, allowing her to fight her cousin as an equal. She-Hulk is among the strongest beings around, and she’s also a lawyer, so it’s best not to question her strength!
8) Red Hulk

Despite often pursuing Bruce Banner and clashing with the Avengers, Thunderbolt Ross has frequently fought with them as well. The process that turned him into the Red Hulk granted him immense strength – easily lifting 100 tons. He’s demonstrated this power by defeating incredibly powerful beings like Uatu the Watcher and holding his own against Beta Ray Bill. Notably, Red Hulk even managed to defeat and kill the Abomination, a villain stronger than the Hulk without considering the Hulk’s rage-fueled power increases. However, Red Hulk’s strength differs from the Hulk’s; he doesn’t become more powerful when angry. His strength is consistent, and while he can increase his intensity, it doesn’t increase his lifting capacity.
7) Wonder Man

Even though Red Hulk is incredibly strong, the heroes from here on out are on a whole different level of power. Wonder Man, whose body is made of pure energy, has a wide range of amazing abilities, but we’re focusing on his strength. He’s consistently shown he can lift more than 100 tons and even defeated Red Hulk in Avengers (2010) #31. People often compare him to Thor and Sentry, though he hasn’t quite reached their level. He briefly managed to lift Thor’s training weights in Avengers #175, but it was a huge struggle. While not quite as strong as Thor, Wonder Man is incredibly powerful.
6) Hyperion

The rankings from sixth to third place are pretty interchangeable, as the characters are all very closely matched in power. It’s tough to separate them, but I’ll do my best. I’m placing Hyperion here – specifically, the heroic version from Earth-13034 who appeared during a famous storyline. Hyperion is incredibly strong; he’s gone toe-to-toe with the Hulk and even lifted the entire city of Atlantis out of the water. However, his most impressive feat is arguably holding two Earths apart when they collided, even though he couldn’t prevent the disaster. Just the fact that he was able to do that shows an immense level of raw power.
5) Hercules

Coming in at number five is Hercules, the incredibly strong demigod also known as the Prince of Power. He’s consistently shown his immense strength by battling powerhouses like Thor and the Hulk. As the strongest of the Olympian gods, some of his accomplishments even surpass those of other gods. For example, in Marvel Team-Up #28 (1972), he pulled the entire island of Manhattan behind him with a chain—a weight estimated to be over two million pounds! But his most impressive feat is lifting the heavens themselves, as depicted in Incredible Hercules #124. While it’s impossible to calculate the weight of the heavens, the fact that stars and planets were visible within that weight suggests it was unbelievably heavy. And he managed to do it all effortlessly.
4) Sentry

The Sentry is incredibly powerful – some say his strength rivals a million exploding suns. While that’s hard to imagine, he’s consistently demonstrated immense strength, easily defeating characters like Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, and Ares. It’s been suggested he could even fight Galactus to a draw, and given his abilities, that seems believable. One of his greatest displays of power came during a fight with an enraged Hulk in World War Hulk #5. Their battle devastated New York City, and though they ultimately reached a standstill, the Hulk remained standing while the Sentry passed out. The Sentry’s main weakness isn’t physical, but his own unstable mind, which limits his full potential.
3) Blue Marvel

Blue Marvel is another powerful character similar to Superman, but many consider him even more impressive. He gained incredible abilities after an experiment with the Negative Zone transformed him into a being that generates antimatter. This gives him almost unlimited power, including immense strength – enough to easily defeat even the strongest opponents, like King Hyperion. He’s effortlessly beaten heroes such as Wonder Man, Captain Marvel, and the Hulk. Some of his most amazing feats include throwing a meteor the size of Arkansas and lifting the 93,000-ton warship Enterprise with no apparent effort. Blue Marvel is among the most powerful beings in the universe and can handle any challenge thrown his way.
2) Thor

Thor, the God of Thunder and ruler of Asgard, is considered the strongest being in the Marvel Universe. He’s performed countless incredible feats of strength – far too many to list – but some stand out. Without any power boosts, Thor has broken unbreakable adamantium chains, moved a million tons of earth, withstood the immense gravity of a neutron star, and even lifted the weight of twenty planets – all with relative ease, even pushing over the Leaning Tower of Pisa with just a pinky finger! While his natural strength rivals that of Hercules, when Thor taps into the Odinforce or enters a battle rage, his power becomes nearly limitless. Though, even at his peak, he’s not entirely invincible.
1) Hulk

The Hulk is undeniably the strongest being in the Marvel Universe. His power has no upper limit – the angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes, and he’s perpetually furious. Listing all of his incredible feats would take forever, but here are just a few examples: He’s punched his way through time storms, defeated Kang, torn apart entire dimensions with a clap, caused earthquakes with a single step, and even shaken the multiverse with one punch. The Hulk has consistently defeated almost every powerful opponent he’s faced. He truly lives up to his title as the Strongest One There Is, and anyone who challenges that will quickly find themselves on the receiving end of his incredible strength.
