2026 promises to be a great year for anime fans, with the return of popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and Fire Force. New seasons of these shows have already started, and many more exciting anime are coming. Crunchyroll, the leading anime streaming service, hosts a huge library of hit shows and movies. One of their popular romantic comedies, Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, became a global success when it premiered in Summer 2024. A second season was quickly announced, originally expected this year, but will now be released in 2026, almost two years after the first season.
The anime’s official website announced that the second season will premiere in 2027. While there hasn’t been a formal statement about a delay, it seems to be due to production challenges. These issues are also affecting another popular series produced by the animation studio Doga Kobo. Founded in 1973, Doga Kobo is a long-standing studio with over a hundred anime titles to its name, including well-known works like Oshi no Ko, Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, and Plastic Memories.
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Studio Is Facing Production Issues

The anime Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian is made by Doga Kobo, the studio behind Oshi no Ko. Currently, Doga Kobo is experiencing some production delays. They recently postponed the release of another anime, Though I Am an Inept Villainess, from April 2026 to July of this year. While they announced plans last March to adapt a popular light novel by Satsuki Nakamura (illustrated by Kana Yuki), fans will have to wait significantly longer for this new series compared to the previously delayed historical anime.
What Is The Plot of Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian?

The story centers around Alya Kujo, a student at the elite Seirei Academy in Japan. She’s half-Russian, half-Japanese, and known for her beauty, intelligence, and somewhat distant demeanor – she’s also the student council treasurer. Her classmate, Masachika Kuze, is quite different; he often doesn’t apply himself in class and doesn’t seem to notice Alya at all.
Alya was annoyed with Masachika at first, but she started to see a different, softer side to him. Feeling shy about admitting how she felt, she surprisingly confessed her feelings in Russian, hoping he wouldn’t understand. However, she didn’t know that Masachika actually speaks Russian fluently and heard everything. The story then follows their growing connection as they spend more time together, developing a unique and quirky relationship.
