New Castlevania Game Revealed for 2026

Konami is marking the 40th anniversary of the Castlevania series with a brand-new game for today’s consoles. They unveiled the first trailer during the 2025 PlayStation State of Play, and early signs suggest it will build on the best parts of previous Castlevania games to create something special. The announcement is a fantastic surprise for longtime fans, and Konami is also aiming to attract a new audience by using the fast-paced 2D platforming style seen in games like Dead Cells, while still capturing the atmosphere and visuals players love about Castlevania.

The new Castlevania game was revealed at State of Play on February 12, 2026, by producer Tsutomu Taniguchi. The trailer showed extensive gameplay, with a character resembling Sypha Belnades from the Castlevania Netflix series running and fighting through multiple levels. The game’s style is similar to Dead Cells, which makes sense since it was co-developed by the creators of that game, Evil Empire and Motion Twin – who previously worked with Konami on classic Castlevania titles.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Is Coming in 2026

It’s been a while since a brand new Castlevania game was released. While older titles have been re-released on newer consoles, fans have been waiting for original content since Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014. Aside from a remake of Haunted Castle, nothing new has come out. Back in February 2025, ComicBook reported a new game was in the works, but Konami hadn’t shared any updates… until now! The wait is finally over – Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is scheduled to launch in 2026. Check out the trailer below!

Konami’s Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse takes place in Paris in 1499, a city suddenly plagued by monsters. Players will control a descendant of Trevor Belmont – though the character shown appears to be Sypha, not Richter – and venture into the city and its castle to battle these creatures. The iconic whip returns, allowing players to swing around like a trapeze artist and engage in fast-paced, creative combat.

Konami also mentioned that the whip isn’t the only weapon players will have access to, promising more weapons and abilities to learn. A sword is confirmed to be among them, though specific details are still under wraps. Everything shown for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse feels like a tribute to longtime fans, blending familiar elements with a new story that should appeal to both veterans and newcomers. Konami hasn’t announced a firm release date yet, but 2026 seems to be the current goal, and we can expect a more concrete date to be revealed later. Stay tuned to ComicBook for further updates on the new Castlevania game.
