It was only a matter of time before Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 was announced, especially since the first collection was called “Vol. 1.” Konami officially revealed it during the February 2026 State of Play, and the reveal trailer also gave us a confirmed release date. This collection will bring several classic games to current gaming systems.
The second volume of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection will include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and a surprise addition, Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel, along with a digital soundtrack. It’s launching on August 27th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and the new Nintendo Switch 2, though the price hasn’t been announced yet. The first collection cost $59.99 and included an additional full game, plus some bonus titles.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Will Finally (Legally) Free MGS4 From Its PS3 Prison
The highly-regarded game Metal Gear Solid 4 (originally released in 2008) is now coming to platforms beyond the PlayStation 3. Due to the PS3’s difficult-to-replicate hardware, the game hasn’t been easily playable on other systems, as newer PlayStation consoles only offer streaming or imperfect PC emulation. Konami has announced this new version will feature improved graphics, a smoother frame rate, and options to customize the controls. It’s currently unknown whether the game will address the original’s lengthy installation process, or if references specifically tied to the PS3 will remain in the game.
Originally released for the PSP in 2010, Peace Walker was later included in the Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s this version of the game that will be featured in Master Collection Vol. 2. This installment, which focuses on cooperative gameplay within the Big Boss storyline, will allow players to customize the controls and will still offer both online co-op and competitive multiplayer.
Released for the Game Boy Color in 2000, Ghost Babel is likely the most obscure of the three games. It’s set in a different timeline seven years after the events of the original 1987 game. With its unique camera angle and gameplay, it blends elements of both Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid. This updated version will feature screen filters, a rewind feature, and the ability to customize the controls.
If you pre-order the game bundle, you’ll get special in-game items for Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker – cardboard camouflage for MGS4 and the Love Box uniform for Peace Walker. Players who have saved data from Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 will unlock Gold Camo in MGS4 and the Gold uniform in Peace Walker. Speaking of Master Collection Vol. 1, it recently received an update to improve the game’s resolution and text clarity, addressing a common criticism from its 2023 launch. Konami has been steadily working on these improvements since then.
