Some PlayStation 5 owners can now get a massive RPG – offering over 130 hours of gameplay – completely free. Originally released in 2018 for the PS4, the game has recently been updated for PS5. If you already own the PS4 version – and many PlayStation players do, given its popularity – you can download the PS5 upgrade at no cost. This RPG has never been included with PlayStation Plus, so if you didn’t buy it on PS4 before, it’s available for purchase for $29.99.
This updated version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance for the PS5 features sharper graphics with 4K resolution, enhanced textures, and a smoother frame rate, along with other technical improvements. If you haven’t played the game before, or struggled with its performance on the PS4, now is a great time to experience this RPG on PlayStation. These upgrades should significantly improve the gameplay.
Predecessor to One of the Best PS5 RPGs
This release is well-timed, following the success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 last year, which was a standout game in 2025 – it earned an impressive 89 on Metacritic and is considered one of the best RPGs on the PS5. The original Kingdom Come: Deliverance wasn’t quite as polished. Made with a smaller budget, it had some performance problems when it first launched, resulting in a Metacritic score between 69 and 76. Despite these issues, it still sold over 10 million copies, making it a very successful RPG from the latter part of the 2010s.
It’s no surprise PlayStation fans are pleased the PS5 version is a free upgrade, given the significant effort put into improving it. Many game companies typically charge extra for upgrades, particularly when they involve this much work.
One popular commenter on the YouTube video said they’re excited to finally be able to play the game now that it’s free, and plan to revisit it later. Another commenter simply stated they’ll be replaying the game.
If you haven’t tried this medieval RPG yet, be prepared to invest a significant amount of time – at least 40 hours – to finish the main story. Exploring optional content will easily double that, and dedicated completionists could spend over 130 hours to see everything the game has to offer.
