Okay, so romantasy is everywhere right now, which is awesome! But honestly, it’s surprisingly hard to find books that really nail both the fantasy and the romance parts – ones that feel truly perfect. Let’s be real, even finding a truly amazing fantasy book is tough! There’s just so much that goes into it – a great story, a fully realized world, characters you really care about, and a believable romance. And it’s not enough for all those things to be good on their own, the author has to weave them together seamlessly. It’s a lot to ask!
Writing a truly great romantasy novel is incredibly difficult, and even the most successful books in the genre sometimes fall short. Luckily, a few really nail it. Whether it’s a richly detailed, dark story exploring faith and power, or a charming, unique take on faeries, these books truly stand out.
5) The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig

Rachel Gillig’s The Knight and the Moth was a standout romantasy novel of 2025, and it’s hard to find anything wrong with it, even though the story will continue in the upcoming sequel, The Knave and the Moon. The book follows a Diviner as she investigates the disappearance of her sisters. It’s a thought-provoking story that explores themes of belief and manipulation, set in a beautifully dark and immersive world. The connection between the main character and her love interest is strong and includes some romance, but it never overshadows the compelling plot. Plus, a clever twist at the end makes this book a perfect 10/10 read from start to finish.
4) Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross

I was absolutely blown away by Rebecca Ross’s new book, Wild Reverence! As a huge fan of her Divine Rivals series, I was so excited for this adult spinoff, and it did not disappoint. It has all the things I love about her writing – beautiful prose, incredible tension between the characters, and a really immersive setting. But what really sets this book apart is the world-building. She’s taken the lore from Divine Rivals and built something truly epic – a mythology that feels as rich and detailed as the stories of Greek and Roman gods. Everything feels so complete and well-thought-out, which makes the central romance and the overall conflict even more powerful. Honestly, this is Rebecca Ross at her absolute best, and it’s a perfect example of how romantasy should be done. Seriously, someone needs to turn this into a movie or TV show!
3) The Jasad Crown by Sara Hashem

I have to say, Sara Hashem’s The Jasad Heir definitely grabbed my attention with its unique Egyptian setting and a genuinely compelling enemies-to-lovers story – the characters start as enemies, which is refreshing! While the first book in the Scorched Throne duology was good, the sequel, The Jasad Crown, is phenomenal. Hashem really builds on everything established in the first book, making the second one a faster, more satisfying read. The characters remain fantastic, and the world expands in really interesting ways. She manages to do all this while expertly building towards a truly epic and emotional climax – the kind that will leave you reeling in the best possible way.
2) Immortal Consequences by I.V. Marie

I.V. Marie’s debut novel, Immortal Consequences, is remarkably strong. The story’s concept – characters fighting to hold onto who they are and their memories in a purgatory-like state – is immediately engaging. The author skillfully weaves together multiple viewpoints and manages multiple love stories without the plot feeling cluttered. This is all done while the characters are challenged through a series of trials, a familiar trope in romantic fantasy, but given a fresh twist by the unique setting. The book is beautifully written and leaves readers excited for the next installment, making it a nearly flawless start to what promises to be a successful writing career for I.V. Marie.
1) Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

If you’re looking for a comforting romantasy novel, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries is a fantastic choice. It’s a truly cozy read, filled with delightful settings and mouthwatering descriptions that will make you want to revisit the story again and again. The main character, Emily Wilde, is a refreshing and relatable heroine, and her love interest is charmingly laid-back. This book offers a unique, science-based take on faeries, avoiding many of the clichés found in other fae tales. It perfectly balances a relaxed pace – essential for a cozy story – with genuine emotional depth. It’s a skillfully written book and a must-read for anyone who enjoys cozy fantasy or romantasy.
