Although Dungeons & Dragons is the most famous fantasy tabletop role-playing game, it’s not the only option. Many RPG players, including me, have also tried Pathfinder. Pathfinder was originally created because some players were unhappy with the changes made to D&D 4th edition. Since then, Paizo’s game has become popular in its own right, with a dedicated fanbase and a constantly expanding selection of character classes – and even more are on the way.
I was initially drawn to Pathfinder because it included a Witch class, which wasn’t available in D&D 5e. Pathfinder also offers a much wider variety of classes overall – currently 27, with 2 more planned for this year – compared to D&D‘s 13 core classes. Paizo recently previewed two more new classes in a livestream playtest. When these are released, likely in 2027 or later, Pathfinder will boast a total of 30 playable classes.
Paizo Shows Off First Look at Pathfinder‘s Daredevil and Slayer Classes Ahead of Official Playtest

Paizo first introduced the Necromancer and Runesmith classes in 2024. After a period of playtesting that ended in early 2025, fans have eagerly awaited their official release in print. Finally, these two new classes will appear in the Impossible Magic sourcebook, launching on July 30th, 2026. The book also brings back the Magus and Summoner classes. With Impossible Magic scheduled for release this year, Paizo is already giving fans a preview of what’s coming next.
With the upcoming release of the Runesmith and Necromancer in July, Pathfinder 2e will offer players a total of 29 character classes. Paizo recently previewed the next two additions – the Daredevil and Slayer – during a livestream playtest on February 13th. This gave fans a first look at these exciting new classes, bringing the total number of options in Pathfinder 2e to over 30. Playtest materials for the Daredevil and Slayer will be available soon so players can try them out!
On February 17th, players will get a chance to try out the new Daredevil and Slayer classes through a playtest. This allows Paizo to gather feedback and refine these classes before their official release. Typically, playtests happen a year or more before a class is finalized, and in some cases, like with the Necromancer and Runesmith, it takes even longer. Therefore, we probably won’t see the finished versions of the Daredevil and Slayer until 2027, or potentially later.
Exciting news! Pathfinder is playtesting two brand new classes – the Daredevil and the Slayer – live on Twitch! Tune in now to watch: buff.ly/kbNt4wm

During a recent livestream, Pathfinder 2e designers Jason Keeley and Costin Wilken-Schelling introduced the game’s new classes. The Daredevil is a powerful, physically imposing fighter, while the Slayer specializes in hunting monsters. The Slayer draws inspiration from the original Pathfinder Slayer, but isn’t simply an updated version. The livestream included live gameplay of both classes, and you can watch a recording to see them in action.
After this initial preview, players are eager to learn more about the new classes. With 29 classes already available, it will be fascinating to see how the Daredevil and Slayer differentiate themselves and offer unique gameplay experiences.
